You either have a short in the wiring .... which hopefully would have blown a fuse... or the relay for the fan needs replacing.

i'll look up the code later and see what it is

I haven't had a chance to check that code but something else that can be wrong is the fuse block may be shorted.... it's located under the dash mounted on the duct work ... two to three bolt/screws hold it in and least two wires go to it.... usually located near the fan motor.

The check engine light could be an entirely different issue

the relays are located on the fuse panel....

you have a short somewhere and i have to suggest it's the resister block... what that part does is allows the switch to add different resisters into the power line to the fan to give you different speeds... read up for the location

unplug it just to test if the fan keeps going

First check the fuse,if ok. Check if you still get power to the blower motor, on the plug, if so. you need to replace the blower motor and resistor. if not check power supply to blower switch, and power after the switch, if you turn switch on and off.

Your impala doesn't have a resistor , it has a blower motor control processor and it doesn't work the way you think it does
Chevy Trailblazer EXT Blower Motor Won Turn Off
Blower Motor Control Processor
The blower motor control processor is an interface between the HVAC control module and the blower motor. The blower motor speed control, battery positive voltage and ground circuits enable the control processor to operate. The HVAC control module provides a PWM signal to the control processor in order to command the blower motor speed. The processor supplies 12 volts to the blower motor through the blower motor voltage supply circuit. The control processor uses the blower motor ground as a low side control to adjust the blower motor speed.

My cooling fan motor isn't turning on my 2004 Pontiac Sunfire. My car is running hot because of this. How can I change the motor myself without spending a tonne of money on a dealership.

first check if the motor is bad.We ran a hot wire from hot to hot on battery. The fan kicked on.Ours was an inline fuse so ran wire from the positive wire on fan to a wire (hot) to key switch. This way you turn on the key and fan comes on

Heater fan will not come on when it switched on.

locate your blower motor.probably under dash rh side, possibly under hood fire wall area pass. side. unplug connector to blower motor.if older style with one wire check for source voltage present at wire, source voltage meaning voltage present at connector should equal batt. voltage.if connector has 2 wires place multimeter on DC volts across both terminals and reading should equal source with fan switch on high.

Air stopped blowing on ac/heater

Check your fuses. If you have a test light, unplug the blower motor, start the car, turn the fan on, if you have power to the blower plug, the blower motor is bad. If no power, if it's not a fuse, check the blower motor resistor. Should be mounted right next to the blower motor. It is inserted into the evaporator box
