Can you count the number of shifts ?
2nd speed at 10 - 3rd speed at 20 - lockup and overdrive at 40 ?
Normal RPM for most cars is around 2000 at 60mph.

Testimonial: "No I can't. It just keeps going up with no sound in shifting...."

Well, if it were to stay in second gear, the RPM at 60mph should be more like 4000 or 5000 RPM instead of 2000. Whats the RPM at say 40mph? If it is not shifting, and the check engine light is not on, you will probably need to take it to someone and have it checked out.

The rpm's at 65-70 mph are about 3300, it seriously sounds like it is running 4000-5000, I can't fiqure it out...I'll call for a appt this coming week...

This just happened on my car this week. It was the revolution sensor on the transmission. Take it to a transmission specialist. Mine ran the diagnostic, some test and gave an estimate for free. =)

2000 Honda Accord LX 4 cylinder 2.3 liter engine, rpm surges, won't stop reving up at start up

Sound like you jumped a tooth on the timing belt. Change it immediately. If it jumps more or completely fails you will bend all the valves. Just make sure you time it correctly. However a bad Mass Airflow sensor would cause the RPMs to go crazy. But the pinging is most likely the valve tapping the piston and needs immediate attention as well.

98 Expedition..5.4L 4WD..coded bank 1 bank 2....O2 sensors..LEAN....replaced both..no change..still same codes..now it won't stay running. Tried to code again..won't run long enough to get a c

Really sounds like a vacuum leak. Lean code could still be accurate. Screaming idle usually means air is getting into engine. Ruptured EGR diaphragm would vent air. Brake booster could vent air. A lot of air will show lean mix.

You may have to use different methods to test vacuum. Some use vacuum gauge to test egr and lines which dead end into solenoids. Other tests use water spray or propane gas to draw in and change rpm. You are at a disadvantage if engine does not run.

Crankshaft sensor helps set fuel volume for given rpm. Might not be counting all the rpm's, but would not account for fast idle.

Hi, I have a 1999 Mercury Villager with the 3.3 Litre Nissan motor. Just recently my cousin replaced the timing belt, and distributor. When we got the van back it was having transmission problems. When you...

I would start by making sure the Trans Fluid level is correct. If the level is good, it sounds like your internal pressures are leaking down, and that is why it slips out of gear. Which means you have internal trans issue which would require the trans to be most likely removed and repaired.

Thanks Jay!

When you take off in my car it don't wanna get up to speed and it's like you lose power going around 30 and trying to get up to 55 and it shakes hard and when it down shifts it shakes really bad and makes...

This sounds to me as though you have a mixed up computer chip in the onboard computer controling the shifting. First though, check the RPM sensor on the tranmission. If it is sending a wrong signal, that would cause the shifting problem. If you have a digital dash and have an RPM display, with the car in Neutral, watch the RMPs while slowly reving the engine. If it seems not correct then replace the sensor. Hope that helps

I just purchased it today. The RPM's goes up to 4

You'll want to doublecheck & make sure the Overdrive is turned on. That's a high rpm for 55, even high I believe for Interstate cruising at 65-70.

Possibly get back to the dealer immediately if it's not the Overdrive switch.

There are issues with some models that concern the RPM staying around 4,000 even at idle & under the right circumstances, a transmission won't shift as it should based upon engine & driving signals that the Trans computer uses to determine when to shift.

Check your fluid first & remember, Overdrive doesn't work until the fluid reaches a certain temperature.

good luck

My transmisson makes a weezing sound when im at low speed

You sure its the transmission? Wheezing sound is usually the catylitic converter becoming plugged. Also...at 3-5K rpm you are not idling, you are reving the engine...(in that case, trans may be slipping or flairing between shifts, unless the unit is staying in one gear and just delaying shift till you reach that rpm. actual shift point should be close to 2,000rpm) I'd check the cat first.
