Question about 1996 Land Rover Range Rover

1 Answer

Wont start Im planning to buy a 1996 4.6 hse RR with 149k for $2500. Good deal right, one problem it wont start. weve tryed to do the EKA, with no luck. Ive been doing a lot of reading up on this RR trying to troubleshoot, but cant figuar it out. We even put the key in the ing. turned to the II, then conected the battery. still no luck. The guy selling the RR said he lost the orig.remote/key. Reason why we tryed using the EKA.With the val/key w/o remote. could not having the key with the remote be the answer to this problem?

We have just slved our mystery about not starting. It is the key. the no1 key is the 1 that is in synch with the comp. it will cost a fair bit to get new key and then have it aligned with systm. find original key, and you are laughing. Jean.

I have the same problem sometimes
1 Check the condition of your battery, if old, it will not give full power required to communicate with the security system.
2 If you don't have the EKA of your RR, try this next time you get caught, put key in the drivers door look, press unlock button on key fob and at the same time turn to unlock, if all locks unlock then the engine should not be immobilized - Good luck

Car will not start security llight flashing

This is a pretty common problem on GM vehicles. Theres a pretty good write up on this link. I've been dealing in these security systems for years and the best way to "fix" them, is to bypass them. If you fix one part, another part will go. It gets expensive and annoying. Especially on a 92, im sure you're done trying to throw money in that vehicle. You can fix this yourself, ive done dozens of these bypasses. Good luck

I can not get the brake rotors off. Calibers are removed. Tried a puller and no luck. Do I need to remove the nut on the spindle?

Im not an expert but Ive changed the rotors on my 96 Dodge ram 1500 4X4 a couple of times (Im real hard on brakes) and as soon as I take off the caliper the rotor slides right off. Ive had problems with the rear drums coming off but the rotors should slip right off.

Hi i have a 99 range rover p38 the key fob is broken so i have to put the eka code in to get it started but the battery when flat and now when i put the code in it wont stop the led light on the dase and...

The BECM will retain the EKA code, so , charge or replace the battery. Close all doors, windows bonnet etc, then try the EKA code. You must know, that if you enter the incorrect code or do not enter the code correctly by returning the key to the centre position after each turn of the key , more than 3 times, then the system will lock out and you will have to wait 30 minutes to retry. It should start , but it would be good to get another remote handset, Hope that helps

Sounds like the computer needs to be reset. Take it to a local mechanic and ask them to do it. It should be cheap and quick. Some really nice guys will even do it for free. Good luck.

1996 dodge ram 2500 auto transmission not shifting properly

Well, first do the service. Pull the pan down and look for metal shavings. If there is metal shavings your in for a transmission. If not, you may have a problem with one of the transmissions shift solenoids located near the valve body.
P.S. The Duramax has the Allison 1000 transmission not the dodge cummins and they are one of the best trannys on the market.

Wont start or stay on

From the info you provided, it seems like it is not getting constant supply of fuel. I think that don't have a carburator. It has a TBI(Throttle Body Injector. You should hear a faint humming noise at the back coming from within the fuel tank when you turn the key on. Thats the fuel pump. Your fuel pump may have gone out.
