Question about 2003 Chevrolet Blazer

2 Answers

2003 chevy blazer front end howling and also rear clunking.

I just inherited this vehicle from a family member. I was driving to work today very very cold - 40 C with the windchill and the roads are icy and lots of crevices to drive over. I noticed a howling noise coming from the front right side when I go around 60kms plus. Also I have noticed today a clunky sound from the rear. I think also clicking. I hope that you can help me out before I take it to a mechanic. Being a female it would help to know a little bit before hand.

The howling sound could be a window with a little opening, check if your window was totally closed. the clunkin? or clickin sound you hear could be the road salt or ice thats being thrown to your mud guard by the wheel. anyway an actual inspection is recomended, pep boys can do a courtesy check for free.

Have the front hubs checked out, also have the wheel bearing checked, also the front CV joints, it is a good idea as well to ask them if they do free safety inspections for any trouble spots that may leave u stranded, remember that these will only be recommendations if they find a serious issue that needs attention.

My 2012 Chevy Silverado 4.3 liter 2wd drive has a clunk in the rear end and a rough idle no check engine light on

Hi Josh:
Sounds like you're dealing with 2 separate problems.
It's possible that the clunk in the rear end could be driveshaft universal, incorrect gear alignment in differential, or worn/loose suspension linkage bushings. It's a matter of checking all components to find the problem. WORK SAFE. Work with the vehicle on a hoist or on jack stands.
ROUGH IDLE? Check spark plugs. Try adding some carb/injector cleaner to the gas and going for a drive. (After you've found the clunk.

My 2004 chevy blazer clunks only in 4whl drive, right front. Anyone know what it might be?

There is so much turning up there that it can be several things. The normal Balljoint problem can have the part slip in and out of its socket if it gets loose. Check your tierod ends for slack.
Sometimes Calipers can rock if they are failing to float properly with loose hardware. The front torque is changing from being pushed by the rear wheels to pulling with the front wheels.
This can affect how the Balljoints react as the sockets are getting torque differently than in 2WD. You are also using the CV joints to pull rather than coasting in 2WD. Check your end play for the front hubs; they used to be about .005 and you need Year model specific Specs to be sure.

Check out some 4-Wheeling Blog sites as they may know more about the common problems. There are so many things to check that a Blog may be your best source.

1998 Silverado 1500 Rear End Howl/Leak/Clunk/Vibration Pinion

A pinion seal leaks for one or boyh of these reasons. A worn pinion bearing or a driveshaft vibration, Sounds as though you have both. Do not confuse tire howl with gear howl, be sure. The rear end can run 3 to 500.00 if not more. Ck the gear oil in the rearend for metal content. That will tell you alot. The hard shifting is generally from a sticky spool in the trans valve body. Have the trans serviced w/new oil and filter. The new oil often cleans the moving parts of gum and varnish buildup.in the valve body. One more thing, the rear ends take a special oil and additive if it's a limited slip or posi lock. You will have a popping/binding noise when turning if the wrong lube is install. Have your driveshaft aligned and balanced at at driveshaft shop.or you will end up tearing up the tailshaft on the trans. Good Luck

2003 Chevy Blazer 4x4 making howling noise in front end.

as stated above, check the transfer case fluid level, also check the fluid in the front and rear differentials, make sure it is full and clean. if the howling still exists it can also be caused by hub bearings, or differential bearings.
