SOURCE: Fuel problem 1998 cadillac deville

I read somewhere that the fuel pump is lubricated by the Gasoline. It warned to never run out of gas with these Cadillacs. It may need a new fuel filter now.

The junk may have collected in your fuel filter?

Someone posted they had there fuel pump quit after running out of gas 3 weeks later. Try disconnecting your battery for 10 minutes first to see if it is actually the Anti-theft system.

We can't put more than $20 in the tank before it starts to over flow, with the gas gauge on empty when we start pumping. Then the gauge reads 3/4 tank. When it runs down to half it jumps straight down to...

Your fuel pump assembly located inside the gas tank has a float that measures how much gasoline is in the tank. False readings means the fuel pump assembly needs to be replaced.

Why is gas gauge not working correctly since fuelpump was replaced.

Is this a flex fuel vehicle. If so, call the dealership and ask the parts dept. if there is a gauge module (perhaps behind the instrument cluster). This may be the culprit and needs to be replaced.

Gas gauge does not read well below half tank

More than likely a floater issue!! This is located within the gas tank and mounted to the fuel pump. It sends a unique signal depending on the amount of fuel within the tank determining fuel gauge readings. Its very possible the unit is defective causing improper gauge readings.

Random Fuel Gauge readings

The sending unit inside the fuel tank is at fault doing this to your gauge

It has a reostat that measures the amount of fuel in the tank. The float has a arm that rides along the reostat giving out the measurement. The arm is you can say waving up and down from a bad float that has no ablility to stay steadily bouyant no longer

HI, MY FUEL GAUGE WORKS BUD ERRATIC, I MEAN IT DOESNT SHOW THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF GAS LEFT. WHAT COULD BE WRONG? THANKS.

In a case like this, the culpret is most likely the fuel level sending unit, which is located on the fuel pump in the fuel tank. In most vehicles, the pump and the sending unit all come in one assembly, which means in order to get a correct reading on the gauge, you'll need to replace the fuel pump. And actually, considering the fact that you have to drop the fuel tank and remove the pump anyway, it's just good measure to change them as a set.

I hope this helps! :)

Fuel gauge not give proper reading.. register full

Sorry to say,but the fuel sending unit is the problem, the fuel tank will have to be lowered out of the vehicle to replace the unit.If the fuel sending unit is not available by itself you will have to replace the whole fuel pump assembley.

We just got a 1988 Porsche and filled with 1/2 tank, there was what seemed like overflow happening - Any idea what may be the problem.

fuel tank vent could be blocked by mud/pebbles etc, not letting the gas fumes escape while your adding fuel making it overflow, check underneath the car near the fuel tank .. something to start with..
