Question about 1992 Toyota Celica
When its warm outside i dont have a problem with it but when it gets cold (55 degrees or less) It will downshift into second gear within just a few minutes and it wont shift back into third. I am in college right now and dont have the money to replace the transmission right now. Is there anything i can do to stop it? Even if its a temporary fix. I've changed the fluid and filter, put stuff in it to soften the seals. Everything i was told that would help, I've done but nothing helps! Is there anything at all I can do until I can get it fixed properly?

Sounds like you need the updated engine computer for harsh shifting. Look up under the glove box at the computer. Number should be 89661-02K21 if not, you need the update. It is an 8/80 warranty item.

at 50,000 miles there is really no need. i would wait and save up that money and do a transmission flush 7- 10 quarts of toyota f-type fluid can be costly but a flush removes all of the fluid and garnish along with any fine shavings (normal wear and tear) out of the tranny and replaces it with new clean fluid. normal intervals would be at about 80-100,000 miles. you should be able to find preventative maintenance schedules in your owners manual. if not any repair facility would have it on their computer.

check the clutch plate fingers for bends and the connecting forks for misalignment or off-center bolts, especially if it was a DIY.

if its a manual transmission you will have a plug on the side of the trany you take the top plug out to check the fluid
