SOURCE: how do you remove fuel filter clips

The clips will be one of two varieties, which may depend on if you have a V6 or V8. Here's both solutions:

On one type, you should be able to just squeeze the clip with your fingers with firm pressure. If this doesn't work, then you my have to use channel locks or pliers to squeeze the clip. The fuel line will be held in by an O-ring more than likely, and it'll be a little tough to pull apart.

On the other type, you have to use quick disconnect tools. You can find them at any auto parts store. There's different kinds, the cheapest being a pack of different colored plastic ones. They're really cheap, maybe a few bucks.

The colored plastic will designate the size of the fuel line clips. Usually they come in packs of four...blue, red, white, etc.

Just insert these with the flange facing the clip, slide it in, and you'll feel it unlock. Pull apart the fuel line from the filter.

NOTE: Make sure you release the fuel pressure. And make sure you have rags as well as a container to catch the gas. If it's under pressure, it WILL spray you with gas, so be sure to release the pressure using the schrader valve on the fuel rail that feeds your injectors.

The fuel filter will probaby be a little stiff getting off since the O-ring will be old. Just make sure you wrap the line in a rag and avoid getting sprayed. Eye protection is recommended.

How do I replace the fuel filter?

I believe this filter is threaded on each end to the fuel lines. Unscrew the fittings on each end of the filter and remove the bolt/bracket securing the filter to the vehicle. The filter should be located near the fuel tank. Use caution when loosening the fuel lines as fuel pressure will cause a spray of fuel.

Where is fuel filter located on 2005 pontiac grand am?

Removing the Fuel Filter
  • 1 Unscrew the fuel cap. This will relieve the pressure in the fuel lines.
  • 2 Crawl under the vehicle and locate the fuel filter. The filter is located by the cross member in front of the fuel tank.
  • 3 Separate the tabs on the quick connect fitting and pull off from the fuel line. This is the inlet line.
  • 4 Unscrew the outlet line with a crescent wrench. Pull the outlet line off the filter.
  • 5 Unbolt the mounting bracket with a socket wrench. Pull the filter off.
  • Installing the Fuel Filter
  • 1 Bolt the new filter to the mounting bracket with a socket wrench. Ensure the arrow points toward the front of the vehicle. The arrow indicates fuel flow.
  • 2 Push the quick connect fitting on the inlet line of the filter. The fitting will click in place when the line is properly installed.
  • 3 Bolt the outlet line to the filter with a crescent wrench. Ensure the line is snug.
  • 4 Screw the gas cap back on to the fuel nozzle. Close the gas door.
  • 5 Start the car to allow the fuel to circulate through the fuel lines. Listen for any stalling or hesitation

    Need to replace fuel filter

The fuel filter is mounted on the floor pan just in front of the fuel tank Use compressed air or carburetor cleaner to clean any dirt surrounding the fuel inlet and outlet line fittings. Once all the dirt has been removed, twist the two lines a quarter-turn in opposite directions to loosen the fitting. Depress the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs and detach the inlet line from the fuel filter (see illustration [see comment below marked "#2"] ). Note: Have spare rags or a small container to catch or wipe up extra gasoline that will spill from the filter assembly. Use an open end wrench to steady the outlet side of the filter and a flare nut wrench to unscrew the fuel line nut, then separate the outlet line from the filter while noting the installed position of the O-ring. Using a flare nut wrench will help to avoid rounding the corners off of the fuel line nut. Detach the fuel filter mounting bracket bolt and remove the fuel filter. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note: Be sure to install a new O-ring on the outlet line before reassembling. "Squeeze the white plastic quick-disconnect tabs together and pull the inlet line (A) away from the filter, then detach the outlet line (B) from the fuel filter - unbolt the filter mounting bracket to remove the fuel filter".

How to replace a fuel filter on my 2000 pontiac montana

The fuel filter is located on the drivers side about the mid point of the van inside the frame rail. Loosed the fuel cap to relieve some of the pressure in the fuel system. The filter is held in place by 1 nut (which will probably break off when you try to remove it) and held to the fuel lines on each end by a plastic clip. Pull out these plastic clips with needle nose pliers and pull the fuel lines off. It is easier to understand if you already have the new filter in your hand so you have some idea what these plastic clips look like. Like I said, you will get fuel on you as the lines have fuel in them and well as the filter will be full of fuel.

Removing original fuel filter on 96 grand am

if original, don't worry about the black cap and tabs on the non-threaded end of the filter connection. Unfortunately, you have to literally pull the heck out of it to separate it from this connection. What is holding it in is a metal "barbed" collared sleeve inside the connection. Try using a pliers on the cable side (don't bend or break!) and work the filter off using elbow grease. Not fun, but it worked. The FRAM replacement filter simply snapped right in.
