Question about 1999 Chevrolet Venture

99 venture leaking antifreeze

Replaced water pump today; still leaking; replaced hoses recently but that wasn't it either.

One man at Garage said they didn't tighten the hose. Upon arriving home my daughter checked, and there was no antifreeze at all. They said they failed to tighten the hose, but the mechanic said they broke the hose putting on the water pump. They must have also failed to put in any antifreeze at all. The mechanic brought it to my daughter's home and put it in the van.

We have icy weather so the van hasn't been driven much since the repair, but it seems to be ok.

After driving the van again, and it once again leaking out all the antifreeze, they have determined finally that it is indeed the intake gasket as was suggested. It is supposed to be ready tomorrow.

Your leak is most likely the intake gaskets. These are a real common problem on these motors because they are plastic.check the mating surfaces between the heads and intake for signs of antifreeze. If it is the intake get it fixed right away or it can leak internally and cause bearing damage. Also use felpros metal gaskets.

Antifreeze leaking underneath front of motor

You will need to locate your water pump. There is a small hole on the bottom of the water pump. If antifreeze is dripping out of this hole it is time to replace. You can also make sure all hose connections are tight.

Leaking antifreeze, doesn't run hot, took off hoses thought it was the top hose and can't see anything wrong with it. Can't see any cracks in radiatior any ideas?

You state you checked the top hose, did you check the bottom hose as well? Also, there is the possibility it could be leaking at the water pump.

There is antifreeze leaking under the hood, possibly the water pump?

Could be a number of things. You need to dry the leak and run the engine and watch where it comes from.

Possibiles:-

Radiator
Radiator Hose
Heater Hoses
Water Pump

IMPORTANT Keep a check on all coolant levels whilst you have this issue

Sounds to me like you have put the thermostat in upside down.It still could be the pump, may not have the pumping ability it had when it was put in but i would check the thermostat first.

Antifreeze seems to be leaking from my heater

You need to pressure test the system, and observe for leaks at that time, if a hose or valve CAREFULLY CUT hoses form the heater core, it will be fragile and any flexing typically breakes the core..

CHECK ANTIFREEZE IN RADIATOR.IF LOW ADD COOLANT.CHECK FOR LEAKING RADIATOR HOSES AND WATER PUMP HOSE.ALSO CHECK RADIATOR FOR LEAKS.IF ALL GOOD NO RADIATOR LEAKS.REPLACE THERMOSTAT.IF STILL OVER HEATS AFTER REPLACING THERMOSTAT .CHECK COOLING FANS FOR OPERATION AND COOLANT SENSOR.ALSO CHECK TO MAKE SURE WATER PUMP WEEP HOLES IS NOT LEAKING.BECAUSE A BAD WATER PUMP CAUSES OVERHEATING ALSO.

Leaking antifreeze

could quite possibly be the water pump. There is a weep hole under the shaft, when the bearings go, the antifreeze leaks out at that point. Try checking w/ motor off using a small mirror to get a look under the water pump. If u see corrosion, or it's wet, get a new pump installed. Let me know what u find. good luck countrycurt0
