You have to remove the inner door panels, remove all screws on inside some may be hidden under platic clip in pieces. after you remove them there will be a plastic sheet glued to door. pull this back and you will have access to the linkage, these clips can be purchaes at autoparts store or of course from the dealer. Hope this helps

Rear hatch door on 2007 equinox

More than likely the plastic clips that hold the linkage together have either fallen off or broken. You'll have to remove the door panel to get access to the linkage. Most places like autozone carry the plastic clips but you may want to go directly to the dealer and buy them so you know they'll fit.

How to open a door when the door handles wont work

Open the door from the other side.

Then... remove the inner door panel and the plastic sheeting that isolates the interior of the door from the back of the door's upholstery panel. Be careful with that plastic so you don't damage any more of it than you have to.

Find the linkage between the door handle and the strike mechanism. One piece of that linkage is probably disconnected. Reconnect it (you may need a minor clip from the auto parts place, or you may be able to fashion something from wire or a bobbypin).

Tape the plastic back on the door and reinstall the inner door panel. Test the door to be sure it opens correctly.

Rear door handle doesn't open the door from the inside

Sounds like the linkage has come off the handle inside the door. The door panel will need to be removed to gain access to the linkage. Be careful when removing the panel! Some are held on by plastic snap clips, others by screws (some hidden some not), Also the linkage may be retained by a small plastic clip that holds it to the handle itself. If this is broken you can usually find a replacement at a auto parts store in the HELP section or by showing and asking a sales person there.

Door handle on my 2000 Buick Park Ave wont open the door, the door will open from the inside, is a part on the handle broken

Either the linkage fell (broke) off, or the handle itself broke. Most handles are only plastic afterall. You can buy new outside handles for fairly cheap ($20 or so). Installing them can be easy or tough depending on the vehicle - soem give you room, some do not. But the job is very straight forward - start by taking off to inside panel. Locate the (should be two) bolts/nuts that hold the handle in place. Take off the lock (held in by retainer clip) and the linkage (metal rod with plastic retainer clip). like I said, pretty straight forward. (make sure the window is all the way up before you start).

Driver door handle outside will not operate (common fault i think) anything i can do?

Remove the interior door trim and check the linkages between the door handle and the lock.. I believe that one of the linkages has broken off due to the plastic clips which hold them on, breaking.. Replacing the clip and refitting the linkage will solve your issue..

Trunk/hatch will not open. handle seems loose, no action. Wondering if something is broken. How would you repair it. Can't find any other way to open trunk. The glass window part opens.

2000 ford explorer back hatch handle loose door locked The linkage on the back hatch came unfastened and the handle was loose. Ford uses plastic fastener clips over perfectly good threads to hold this together. The outdoor plastic handle is only conected to the car with two aluminum ribets. One was already missing on mine. But if you just want to open the door, you can rip the handle off and pull it out. hopefully you won't crack the plastic. You can see the linkage screw hanging as you look up through the left hole. Grab it with a plyers and apply a steady force down. This will open the hatch. I just rigged up a different handle and put a nut on the treads to hold it together. This can all be done without tearing appart the interier and may only take 20 minutes. I used a rope and handle from the garage opener, a medium size washer and a nut. First make a small loop, with a small hole to slide over the linkage screw, then the washer, then the nut. Slide the other end of rope through the handle, move the handle very close to the vehicle and tie the not close. Trim the rope and wala ... the hatch works. Or you can pay $300.00+ to have it fixed with the clip.

Outside driverside handle doesn't work, have to open door from th

To repair the exterior handle you have to have the door open.. lower the window...get a low seat or crate to sit on its going to take a few need to look for screws at the inside handle that opens the door there may be a plastic looking plug to conceal the screw ...use a very small flat tip to wiggle that plug out to access the screw. look around the panel for anymore of those concealment plugs ,,,remove and check for screws.. pull those out look at the top were the mirror is and gently pry that plastic cover off (on some models it comes off with the panel) look for a screw there. Now gently lift the panel up wards to get the top out of the window track area..hopefully you managed this so far..if it does not come loose, pry a little and see what may be holding the panel and loosen it. At this point the panel should be loose enough to pull out and away if not there may be plastic pressure clips holding it. that the panel is loose diconnect the switch harness from the panel and put the panel to the side. Peel back the plastic barrier and make sure the window was raised back up or you will not be able to fix the linkage. Once the plastic barrier is out of the way get a light and look up at the handle...check the linkage and the plastic clips that hold it. If you are missing the clips or the rods you need to get them..sometimes they are at the bottom of the door . Look for obvious bent ,missing or broken parts. When in doubt go to a part store.. they help when you need the part. In most cases it isthe linkage or the handle it self that is broken . Now after repair test the system before you put the panel on to save time and effort. I would because I do it for a living and do not like to remove the panel again. Assemble in the reverse . Plastic barrier, harness to switches, panel, screws, plastc plugs. Hopefully you did it and learned what all mechanics deal with daily and get paid beans for.
