Question about 1988 Chevrolet K1500

Engine turns over, fuel injectors are working properly,

New distributer and rotor. Swapped injectors once, ran after the swap but had a leaking injector gasket. Tried to fix gasket and never would run after that.

Rav 4 turbo diesel 1 2 3 cylinders are all working when you take off connector when running no 4 nothing happens


There is a fault with no 4 cylinder. Could be: Faulty new injector, faulty ECM not firing injector, low compression on that cylinder. I'm assuming its a newer common rail model - I suggest getting the injector swapped to another cylinder and see if the problem moves. IE: swap no 2 and 4 injectors - if the problem moves to no 2 then the injector will need to be replaced.

You have an interference motor. If you had to replace the heads due to the valves possibly touching the motor, you have to consider rechecking the compression after you replaced the heads. I had the same motor that had an intake leak. I found frozen rings on the number 1 piston as well as a bent pushrod. Ultimately, the camshaft had broken due to coolant getting to the bearings. If the spark is good, the fuel is good, then the only other problem you'd have would be compression.

Code 306 means cylinder 6 is not producing power. And as you know it takes fuel, spark, and compression at the right time to make power.
Generally, if the injector is firing at the right time the spark plug should be firing as well.
Are you sure the plug is firing ? And is it possible injector 6 has no fuel to spray ?

OBD11 problem code p304-ive tried everything! please help!


  • P0304 is a detected misfire in cylender 4 only.

  • First thing I would like you to check is your firing order. While one misfire can make the engine hesitate and run awful it is not likely to preven all together starting.

  • Here is your firing order, double check

  • You said you changed the coil pace, wires and plugs not long ago and still get the code correct? Assuming the firing order is correct we will move on.


  • Swap fuel injectors from and cylinder with #4. Now reset the codes and see if the code remains a P0304 or weather it moves. If it moves to the cylinder you swapped the injector with the the injector is at fault. If not the the injector itself is not the problem.


  • A smell of rotten eggs out of the tail pipe can be the sign of a bad catalytic converter. a P0304 alone rarely means the converter could be at fault it could be as well as a faulty computer.
  • I might suggest to switch the wire from #4 with another cylinder just to make sure you did not get a faulty wire and I would pull the plug from #4 and make sure it is not fouled again.

  • After all of the things you tried and the injector sway I would suggest that you put a pressure gauge on that cylinder and see if you have decent pressure. You could have an undetected head gasket failure, worn valve. A leak down test may have to be performed if the pressure is low to find out where the leak is.

I have a 1994 gmc 1500 truck with a 5.7 v8.one fuel injector is pumping fuel and the other injector is not!!!!i swapped the injectors and its not the injector.


Go to the parts store and get a noid light for your truck, plug it into the injector electrical and turn the engine over to see if there is electrical pulse, also check the fuel pressure, the pump needs 9-13 psi with the engine running. you know if there is no pulse your going to need to check the wireing first. let me know

Hi Brad,
I ran into the same problem your going thru,
swapped cylinder plug and wire ,and the scan kep telling me it was still seeing the problem on the same cylinder,
smoked it too,nothing made sense!
Until i took the whole fuel rail off carefully not to let the fuel run out all over the engine,Had a white rag folded up and handy,tilted the rail assembly and left the fuel run on the cloth,OMG! the rust that came out of there,
I pulled every injector out of the rail,cleaned the inside of the rail with air pressure and carb cleaner.
Its when I was checking the injectors that I found the culprit,the rust pieces had made it thru the injector but were trapped in the screen of the injector!
I hope this cures your.

have you tried swapping injectors , akso look at egr valve for sticking, or vacuum leaks in and around intake at the faulty cylinder there are several ways to test the leak ,propane ,spraying carb cleaner just be sure to keep fire ext handy just to be safe ? hope this helps if not repost ill give you direct line to solve it

Ce lights on code reads #3 cylinder misfire


I assume this 'complete' tune up was plugs, wires and plennum (intake surge tank) gasket?
If so, recommend you first check to see if you are getting an injector pulse to the #3 injector (a noid light is normally used to verify the injector is receiving the 'pulse' from the ECM. The noid light is a very useful tool in finding out if you have problems with your fuel injector. It is cheap (around 10 dollars per piece), easy to use (if the light blinks, your injector is receiving the electrical pulse to open). If after you verify the injector pulse is present, the next step is to determine if the injector or cylinder is the problem. A simple verification process requires swapping the #3 injector with another to see if the misfire moves to the swapped cylinder.(.i.e, move #3 injector to #2 cylinder & the #2 injector to #3 cylinder.).. Then run engine to see if the P0303 changes to P0302. This would VERIFY the injector is in some way defective. If the misfire STAYS at #3 cylinder, you'll want to perform a compression test of all the cylinders. If after this test you find #3 cylinder is more than 10% lower than all the other cylinders, do a 'Leak-Down' test to determine if the low compression is due to leaky valves (intake or exhaust) or whether the piston/rings are the problem. NOTE: If all the cylinders are withing 10% of each other during the compression test, the possible causes are, injector O-ring leak, vacuum leak at the intake manifold at #3 cylinder, or the spark plug not firing under compression.
