Question about 1991 Volvo 240
I don't drive a lot and the Volvo sits for several days at a time. Lately, when I try to start, she bucks like a bronco and I have to gun the motor to get her going to the point where I can take my foot off the accelerator to get my foot on the brake to get into gear. After starting she runs great as usual and the next time starting has no problem. Until the other day. Sat in a parking lot for about an hour and when I tried to start, bucking and then I tried to go and got little response from the accelerator and continued bucking. Thought I was going to stall getting out of the parking lot and then she decided to run smoothly. My mechanic laughs at me and just says to drive on the highway to clean out the car and that nothing is wrong with her.
I had the same problem w/ my 1979 242 GT.....Try looking at the fuel pump inside the gas tank (go in from the top under the mat in the trunk).....I had a broken hose that was connecting the fuel line from the in-tank fuel pump....or try cleaning or replacing the filter sock located there too & make sure the filter sock is at its proper height ! and check on the fuel pump itself....My bucking problem was more noticeable when the fuel level was low.
