I think you need to start with the basics as there could be numerous reasons to this. Start by checking fuel pressure, engine cylinder compession and make sure that each spark plug is sparking. You did not mention which engine is you have.

Rough idling

When my Grand Cherokee was having similar rough idling problems, I replaced all the plugs and replaced all the ignition and spark plug wires. I also put in half bottle of fuel injector cleaner in gas tank (full, as recommended). I had both immediate improvement in power, smoother idling and my gas mileage went up 2mpg (approx).

sounds like you either need a tune up,or the starter is going bad.It probably runs rough due to unburned gas from failed starts.

2001 Nissan Maxima- runs rough, stalls when idle

Timing belt could have skipped a tooth.

Horrible vacuum leak could have started. Listen for suction noises when you raise the hood.

Someone could have poured sugar in your tank.

You could have put diesel in your tank instead of gas.

Could be a bad MAP sensor, TPS sensor, etc.

Need more details to be precise.
