We're having record cold weather, and don't have a garage to keep our
van in. It was last driven the day before yesterday. My husband keeps
trying to start it; he can hear a clicking but the engine won't start.
We are due for an oil change; the last time it got changed we used
5W-30. He needs to get to work; thank you for your help.
IMPORANT NOTE: DO NOT USE PURE ANTIFREEZE!!!!!!!
50% coolant and 50% water. Nothing else.
Regarding the battery, you can purchase a oil filled battery warmer pad from this link: http://www.padheaters.com/battery_heater.html
I would also consider an engine block heater, also. The engine block heaters that I have seen are a metal device that slides down the oil dipstick tube, and it warms up the oil, to ease starting on really cold days. I use both of these devices on our diesels that we plow snow with; very good results. Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa to assist with your problem. The graciousness of a FixYa rating would be most appreciated.
Try giving this vehicle a boos, If that doesn't work it may be a bad starter, however if you are in sub-zero temperatures and there is not antifreeze in you vehicle if its water or water-down antifreeze the block might be frozen. If this is a fact then you have to wait for it to warm up, then get it started and immediately have your vehicle winterized. (use pure antifree) Good Luck
You need spark-plugs, 02 sensors the ones on there maybe aftermarket they may seem new but some after market products are garbage. You need at-least 2-coils cylinder 3 and 5. Also try using some Chevron injector cleaner i the than double the strength use 2 bottles. That should take care of your problem. Replacing the injector can be expensive I think that will do the trick Good Luck

My husband said many clicks. Thanks!
Thank you so much for your help.
Any idea how to keep the new battery from freezing if/when we have these kinds of temperatures again? (We just moved to a new state - never had to deal with cold like this before.)
Many clicks = a frozen battery. Replace it. Once they freeze, the case swells, and the plates inside are compromised.
Question: One click, or many clicks when attempting starting?
