Question about 2004 Mazda Tribute

2003 Mazda Tribute manual tranny shift lever loose

The vehicle was put into reverse and the shift lever moves easily into all shift positions but does not shift the transmission.  What is the most likely cause and how easy is it to get to?
Thanks
Dwayne

The cable from the shift box inside the vehicle to the transmission was disconnected from the shaft on the transmission.  The spring clip was not positioned correctly and the minus 18 degree temperature/thick transmission oil required a lot of force to shift.  As a result the cable slipped off.

20005 mazda tribute wont go into reverse but when shifting to reverse it will go in drive mode

It sounds as though the shift cable might be going bad. I has the same issues on my 2003 Mazda Tribute and eventually it will break. It is a fairly simple fix if you have any mechanical skills. I believe the cable was around $175.00 bucks. The cable isn't what really goes bad it is the pin that is attached to the cable where it bolts to the transmission but it is a one piece unit. There have been people that repair the pin part only and there are a few youtube videos showing how to do that. If you find where the cable attaches on the shift lever on the transmission you can shift the gears by hand if you have someone in the vehicle putting the brakes on. you should be able to go through all the gears and this will let you know for sure the cable pin is going bad.

2003 aviator won't go into gear

When you say the vehicle "won't go into gear," do you mean you cannot move the lever out of PARK, or do you mean that when you move the lever out of PARK the transmission will not engage?
If the lever will not move out of PARK, check your BRAKE LIGHT fuse, your BRAKE LIGHT switch, and the SOLENOID at the shift mechanism.
If your lever moves out of PARK easily (too easily), it is possible that your shift linkage has broken or come loose.
If your lever moves out of PARK normally but the transmission does not engage, it's time to have the car towed to the transmission repair shop.

100 series landcruiser does not like goingin reverse, feels like at the brakes are on, the car is reluctant to go backwards

manual or stick shift?????, USA car, or not?
is the lever stuck or
the lever goes to reverse but car wont move in reverse.
2003 series 100 LC
it can be 2 things, the TCM is not commanding Reverse
or the tranny refused to go there
if A/T (automatic trans) why not, plug in any scan tool
and read all those tranny errors.
that is first after checking fuses

Gear shift locked in reverse

Check the shift cable under the hood from where attaches to the bottom of the steering post column. The Tribute and the Escape both are known for the retainer to come off. To over-ride the brake-shift interlock, pop open the cover on the column and gently move the lever with a screwdriver....I hope this helps.

Hi, I own a 1997 Ford E 350 Econoline, I have the following transmission engagement problem: Truck will not start: Transmission will not engage any gear, neutral or park. The shift lever feels like is not...

The weld on the manual lever is known to break loose. First, with the wheels off the ground, with the lever in the park position, does the drive shaft lock in park? If yes or no sometimes, drop the trans pan. I bet the nut on the lever camd loose.

2001 Mazda Tribute will not move in drive but will in Low1,2 and reverse. No other tranny noises to be concerned about. What could the problem be?

Hi!!

Check transmission fluid level and color (should be pinkish in color.) If low, fill to level. If dark red, take vehicle to tranny shop for service and diagnostic.

Good Luck

Impala doesn't go into park

I suspect that there is a simple fix.
Under the car.... at the point where the shift lever rod connects to the transmission shift lever(s)...... loosen the nut on the Park transmission shift lever... and place the lever all the way into the park position.... You can confirm by attempting to start the car....
Once you are sure that it is in "Park", you can tighten the shift lever nut....

The floor shift to put automatic transmission in gear is loose.

you have to remove the console cover to get access to the bolts that hold the shift assembly to the floor. I think there are 4.

You probably have to remove the shift bezel cover (PRNDL), remove the shift knob to get the console off.
