Re: Occasional High Idle on a 2001 isuzu rodeo sport
It may be a Throttle Positioning Sensor, or TPS for short. Is the engine light on, and if so you can get it scanned at any local advance auto or autozone for free to tell you what it is. If it's not the TPS, checking simple preventitive maintnence areas, like tune up, if it hasn't been done in a while, it's a good thing to do.
Hope this helps

Took me a couple of views to figure out what HC means. You would need to know what the limit is for your area and what the exhaust is producing, then find out what the cause is. It stands for unburned hydrocarbons which is supposed to be controlled by the O2 sensor among other things. Could be a sensor or the engine not getting up to normal temp.
check for a leaking fuel rail,or injector,or the fuel pressure regulator, which is a vacuum operated valve at the end of the fuel rail.the high idle is caused by a vacuum leak, and if the regulator is leaking, that could be the fuel smell
I just got one today with the same problem; both lights and code p1290 hard to start and once started stayed at idle with no accelleration . If you have already fixed it would be nice to share the info. If not already done ill tell you when i fix this one.
listen for a hissing sound.......plastic intake gaskets are your likely problem....u can lremove bolds and tilt common chamber to one side and slip gasket in and then tilt the otherway for other gasket. hope it helps
