    donot know its idles kind of rough just like to what p0174 mean and what to do

  • k9otto Dec 26, 2008

    I have the same problem with my 2003 Expedition. I have the exact same code appearing. I tried to clean the MAF sensor as described in another web posting, but that did not work. I also tried to uplug the sensor temporarily to help diagnose, as suggested in a repair manual, but that did not affect the problem either. Any suggestions appreciated.

Engine check light on error code 1 is P0171 system too lean bank 1 error code 2 is P0174 system too lean bank 2

P0171 system too lean bank 1
P0174 system too lean bank 2
links to information on the codes

it means that the O2 sensors in your vehicle detected a lean condition in their respective banks. this could be caused by a dirty MAF (mass air flow) sensor or a vacuum leak downstream from the MAF sensor

sometimes you can clean the MAF with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner but be sure to take it off the vehicle first. be careful not to damage the MAF while spraying the cleaner, and allow it to dry completely before installing it on the vehicle.

P0171 and P0174 Left and Right bank lean trouble codes pulled from ECU. Check Engine Light illuminated.

P0171 = system too lean bank 1
P0174 = system too lean bank 2

The fuel/air mixture is too lean for the entire engine. The fuel pump pressure could be too low. The fuel pump pressure regulator could be at fault. There could be an air leak downstream of the MAF sensor. MAF sensor (hot wire type) could be dirty. Check for intake manifold vacuum leaks. The engine coolant temp sensor and/or the intake air temp sensor could be faulty (stuck at full hot mode).
