I tried to post a picture of the alternator, but I'm afraid I'm a computer moron, it didn't work! So, we have to do this the long way: go to autozone website, enter your car info, click on vehicle repair guides, then click engine electrical, then charging system, then scroll down to figure 3, which is a diagram or the back of the alternator. The front has a pulley attached to it, which the drive belt spins to power the alternator. This should help u find it. Let me know how u make out.

that is possible I have had cars do that before. although fixing it will not be easy because of the setup. You need to get the front cover off and check the timing marks to see if the cams are in time with the crank if one cam is off you can lose one or more cylinders...

SOURCE: How do I change the

look around the power steering pump, (Under or maybe behind) you should see a belt tensioner, loosen it and any other brackets close to that have a sliding point, once loose, the belt should slip right6 off, pay close attichion to the way it comes off, you don't wanna put it back on backwards, or your water pump will run in the wrong direction and cause it to over heat

SOURCE: 1998 plymouth breeze left rear brake stays on

Your E-brake cable needs a to be loosened up and you need to see if the E. Brake is locking up, if the cable is not frayed then you have a problem with a check valve in the master cylinder or in the T where the line goes to the left and right. If you want to know how to check out the hydraulic problem it is more detailed, but first you must make sure that the mechanical part is not binding up.

SOURCE: 1998 plymouth breeze is hard to steer. The power

I would expect teither the power steering pump or the steering rack has failed. The good fluid in the unit is just not being put to use.
I hope this may have helped,

SOURCE: 1998 Plymouth Breeze, heater does not blow warm

Check your coolant level. Replace your thermostat and flush coolant system. If you bought used and it never has worked, make sure that the heater core has not been bypassed. If it has, it will probably have to be replaced(was probably leaking on previous owner)

1998 Breeze will not hold charge

Pete,

Many auto parts stores will check your battery for you free of charge (no pun intended). You may have a failing charging system or dead cell in the battery - or both. With the car running just above idle, and all electric accessories off - you should be able to read 13.5 VDC or more on the battery terminals. Good luck!

1998 Plymouth Breeze Drains the battery

Check to see that the trunk light and glove compartment light actually turn OFF when the trunk and glove box doors are closed. Also, if one of the diodes on the alternator has failed, it may still test "good." With the car sitting, ignition off, fully-charged battery, check to see if the back of the alternator is HOT. If it is HOT, replace the alternator.

The battery light on my 98 plymouth breeze stays on . I've had the battery and cables checked so they are fine. What else could be the problem and what will it cost to fix it?

I would have your alternator checked. If that is not the problem maybe have it scanned at a parts store while your having your alternator checked.

I'm about to purchase a 1998 Plymouth Breeze from a friend and they say the car stops on occassion they told me to purchase a new alternator is this going to fix it or is there new problems ahead?

"Car stops on occasion" Then what happens? Does it need a jump to start back up or just let it sit and it starts? If the alternator is bad the battery then takes over running the vehicle. The battery is only made to crank the motor and when the car starts the alternator takes over and charges the battery back up. If the battery is running the car it will eventually run out of power and the car will die. If the car dies because of a bad alternator it will not start unless jumped or new battery put in. I really don't think alternator is the cause of that problem. I'd say don't do it unless you can pinpoint problem.

98 plymouth breeze slight jerking and sputter while accelerating and cruising. no rpm or speed loss. battery light came on first, no check engine light is on?

If your battery light is on, you need to have the alternator tested. If you have a voltmeter you can test it yourself. It should have at least 14 VDC at the battery with engine running.
I'm not sure this is related to the sputtering, but it might be.
