When the car is cold, it shifts fine, but after the motor heats up, it starts to shift rought (trouble getting it to go into gear and have to force it), then eventually it stops shifting. If I stop at a light, I have to turn the car off and put the car into gear, start it and then take off. Usually (but not always) I can get it to shift into higher gears, but not lower.
Indicates a problem in the spigot bush in the crank shaft
it is dry and when it heats up , it is seizing on the input shaft(clutch shaft) of the transmission
up shifting is fairly easy as the hear synchro's do the job along with correct engine rpm
down shift overloads the synchro action unless you increase the rpm to match the ration to road speed

just copy and paste this in the address bar. This is the manual for the automatic transmission.

do the same with this one. This link is for the engine electrical.
It sounds as if your husband knows what he is doing. The information in these two manuals is extensive right down to the last bolt if there is other info that you need just let me know.
I hope this helps

you have worn out teeth on your transmission or you need a new clutch disc.

if the oil in the gear box is ok the its time to get a new gearbox

Possibly a dirty transmission filter. Low fluid level can also do strange things.

Mitsubishi automatic transmissions can be finicky when it comes to there fluid. If it has not been changed for a while get some Diamond SP III ATF or a synthetic equivalent and change the automatic transmission fluid. It may clear up minor shifting issues that are caused by old tired fluid.

its a computer sync problem due to cold weather
try finding the operating system of the transmission of its computer components and covering it to reduce the tempreture coldness
it is the automatic that shifts as manual transmission also?or isthis a clutch shifting manual transmission?
there could be bad teeth on one of the gears it would measure the rpm if one gear is bad it causes the entire operation to mishift because it is handled using a computer operating system it cannot operate defaults so the timing measure of a bad gear or tooth on gear or bent gear will cause the problem
2001 spyder gt I have automatic trans that states as manual shift ability your talking about a clutch shifting manual transmission then its the clutch slipping or the wear of the clutch it would seem I'm only the designer of race cars I normally don't handle understudy operations of labor but I have nothing else to do at the moment so ill add my scientifical equation to solve the problems of osmotical revelations
