I'm replacing the alternator too. I couldn't figure out how to get the belt loosened until I visited the FixYa site. However, now I think that the arm may be siezed up. What's the best way to get this thing moving so I can get the job done? And just to make sure that I'm not being completely retarded, I do pull toward the head lights right? I'd like to have it done before my hubby gets home from work today!

Take out the top 4 bolts above the altenator, between those metal tubes on the metal bracket. then u have 1 bolt holding the wires to the altenator on that bracket aswell remove that. then remove the coolant reserve bottle and stick a breaker bar or rend of a ratchet in the tenchenor pulley square slot pull it back twords the head lights the belt will loosten then remove it from the altenator. then u will see 2 more bolts on the bottom side of the altenator by the pulleys and belt. Remove them 2 bolts all the way and the altenator will drop out of the bottom of them metal tubes and slide through the sides of them and its out... its very ez and does not need the tubes removed its a lot ezer than it looks.. sorry about my spelling im an infantryman not a teacher.

F the Alternator is not mounted with slotted brackets as with V-belts, Locate the spring loaded Tensioner pulley and its moveable arm, will be one with a relitively small pulley, it may have a 1/2 square hole in the arm to accept a ratchet's square end without the use of a socket, (might have to use the nut in center of pulley if no square hole is present) if the tensioner arm is not seized as some can do. you should be able to swing it away from the belt and release the tension and use the other hand to fip the belt off any one of the pulleys then slowly lower the tensioner arm. Pay close attention to belt routing, there should be a diagram on the radiator shroud
