You will need to set the timing up before you take the timing belt of. there will be marks on the pulleys where to line them up. you will need to buy a new timing belt as you can't put the same one on. it is a 13 or 14 ml nut in the middle of the pulley. take the old one off and put the new one on it's as simple as that make sure the timing is set up before you put the new belt one. once belt is on take the spark plugs out and turn bottom or top pulley with a spanner so the engine will turn all the way round freely. sorry better disconnect battery before you do anything and make sure it's not in gear

How to replace the multi purpose belt and the tension pulley

1st you will have to remove the belt, and where the tensioner is located , then take the proper size socket , most of the time, it will be a 14 - 15 metric size socket, and a ratchet, or wrench that is same metric size, and hold back onto the tensioner to relieve the tension to get the belt off, and then unbolt the pully, after you bolt on the new pully, then re route the belt back on to the pulleys, according to the diagram that you should have located under the hood on your car.

Replacing tensioner pulley on 97 olds lss

Remove the belt and this should be a simple remove and replace procedure, just pay attention to how the old one comes off and replace the new one the same way. Should only be one bolt. Please rate this answer, thanks.

I have a 1996 Oldsmobile LSS. Where should the temp gage read at idle? Mine sits at about 200, which seems high.

As long as you are not going into the red section you are fine. Most GM cars normal operating temperature is between 190 and 220 or so. Depends which engine you have.

Belt routing on my Olds 98 LSS. It looks like I

on the v6- 3.1 yes you do. here is how to change it yourself, first of all, release tension on the belt tensioner. remove belt from pulleys, place a floor jack under engine on motor mount side to take off. put a piece of wood on jack to protect engine. jackup to engine with very slight pressure to hold it while removing mount. take off mount, remove old belt, put new belt on. the tensioner can be moved with a 3/8 drive in tensioner hole. after belt is on replace mount. then lower jack down. thats it!!
