how do i check the fuel pressure

  • Anonymous Dec 15, 2008

My problem is very similar. Have a new battery, but it will just stop while driving it. It will always after a few minutes restart and go a little further to make it home. Could this be the fuel pressure also?

the fuel pressure test port is on the top of the engine, it is a metal valve just like a tire valve, u will need a fuel press test guage, about $20 from most auto parts stores. When u test it u must crank the engine for a moment to see if the pressure comes up, a quick question do u run your fuel tank below 1/4 on a fairly regular basis?

Intermitente starting problems & transmission seemed to go out the other day while driving it

sounds more like an engine issue off the top of my head. The transmission runs off the vacuum from the engine. If the engine timing chain is stretched it will run then not run, have problems idling and shifting and won't charge the battery properly. anyone who has done one before could probably tell you just by the sound of the engine running.

I ran into the problem and it was corrosion on the battery terminals. on the inside against the battery. also check the the terminals for good connection.

Just bought it drove all day now it wont start

If the battery was dead before you got it, then you'll need a new one. Sometimes a battery will only hold a charge for a day or two, or even a few hours before it dies.

Have a 2001 gmc jimmy...drove home gas gauge read 1/4 tank..next day cranked over but wont start..gas gauge reads empty...put $10.00 from spare gas can..cranked over but no start ..gas gauge still reads...

chevy and gmc trucks have an on going problem with this, turn the key on,and get a rubber mallot or a hammer and hit the bottom of the fuel tank a couple of times, this will unstick something in the fuel pump/sending unit.

1987 gmc jimmy wont start

yea you have no fuel and sound like a bad harness and the gm's are know for there fuel pump harness's! did you change it when you changed the pump? there is a lose connection somewhere in the fuel delivery system and it's pretty simply! i would check the fuel pump relay on the left hand side of the engine compartment and maybe even put power to the pump at the relay position "b" on the fuel pump relay harness and there should be a one pin connector to put power to also connected to the same position on the relay "b" the wire should be tan and white! good luck

2001 gmc jimmy not starting

Did they do a fuel pressure pressure test to determine that its fuel pump? And if so what was the p.s.i.?It should be around 55 to 60 p.s.i. a few pounds under 55 p.s.i. Pump needs replaced, Your shop should have chk. this when it was there the first time. Did they by chance chg. the fuel filter, that can hinder it from starting too.
