Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

2001 cavalier, abs, trac, service lights on.

All wheel bearings are good. I removed both front abs sensors, cleaned them and checked resistance = 1600 for both. I see no bad wires. The rear sensors measure = 1300 and 1000. Again the wires all look good. All the brakes are new and function properly. The fuses are all good and the brake fluid level is good. I have not checked fusable links. All lights are still on. I tried removing the +battery terminal for 15min then reconnected. All lights came on after 5 min running in Idle. I don;t know what else to do can you advise? My email is

I have the same problem, my ABS, TC and service lights are all on. I took it in to be checked and they found that in the rear, there was no connection on the drivers side wheel, they don't know if it's a wire connection, the censors shot, OR if it's the ABS mod.
The weather was crappy, and whatnot, but I drove her as I normally do, and the lights NOW wont come on till alittle after I drive her. Before they came on a few minutes after starting her without moving.

I have the same ABS problem... I just had new brakes and front wheel bearings done. A couple weeks later the Service light, ABS, light and Trck off light came on. While driving on the highway it sounded like the breaks were scraping or something to that effect. In any event, there was a rather loud intermittant vibration. Is this a serious mechanical problem caused by the ABS failure?? Appreciate any help!

Hi there. I am having the same issue. I've read elsewhere that it may be a short in the ABS sensor module or something like that. There was no causal incident which led to this issue. All three lights just came on at once while we were leaving our driveway.
Recently, we had the car inspected for a noise in the front end which we suspected could be a ball joint or CV-joint issue. It turned out that both of our front strut mounts need to be replaced.

That is all I know. Thanks for any help you can provide.

While stopping abs actuates at about 2mph

its the rear abs speed sensor located on top of rear axle, simply unplug and remove 1 bolt holding it on, pull it off, and put a new one on, the generic ones do not work many times or are short lived. Also you can unplug the wire plug to that sensor and the truck will not have abs, and will stop normaly on drye conditions, however you will no longer have the abs feature when on slick surface.

1996 E350 RV, ABS caution/inop light comes on randomly, sooner when ambient air temp warm, above 50F. Have replaced ABS sensor in rear diff along with fluid in diff. Removed and reconnected wire...

Most vehicles with ABS will have speed sensors located on the rear differential, which you found, and one in each hub assembly up front. I have seen some GM vehicles have speed sensors on the rear hub assembly as well. Check the front hub assembly sensors, there should be a two wire harness that is clipped on to your shock mount up by the firewall. If you have an ohm meter you can measure the resistance of the sensor. If open or short obviously it is bad. I don't know the normal resistance of these sensors. Hope I could help, good luck!

Both tha abs and traction control dash lights are on in my 2001 cavalier .what could possibly cause this problem

They are very prone to faulty front wheel speed sensors, causing the ABS light to come on. They are part of the wheel bearing and come as an assembly. You will need to scan the car to see which one is faulty.

My 2005 chevy cavalier has a service engine, abs, and trac off light on. sometimes the low trac light comes on when in the reverse position, then switches to the 3 lights when put in the drive position....

The ABS and traction off lights usually indicate a bad wheel speed sensor. I can't remember if the service light came on the three times mine went. The most common one to fail is the left front.

Try this cheap fix first.

Remove the left front wheel speed sensor, clean and reinstall it. They are magnetic and some times road debris will block the sensor. If that was the problem the ABS and traction lights will go off when you start the car.

Your second option is to have the shop scan the vehicle trouble codes, usually this costs an hours labor.

Hope this helps

What part of the motor has the abs sensor.

ABS sensor is located in the wheel bearing, There are wire leads that are common to corrode which would set the ABS light to come on. Best is to have the car scanned with a Tech2 scanner which can indicate which sensor or which ABS part is faulty, if it's the ABS module. The Tech2 scanner can indicate that and save you time and money by having you address the issues, rather then replacing parts that are good.
In the mean time, you can try inspecting thew wire leads and cleaning the ABS sensor on the front wheel hub and the rear wheel hub may be a sealed unit or may have speed sensor rig like the front.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck

When i apply the brakes the abs engages slightly

You have a wheel sensor starting to go bad.You will need a computer to read the sensors as you drive to be able to find the sensor that is getting lazy and then replace that sensor. The sensor is built into the wheel bearing unless it is the rear sensor which is located in the top of the rear end differental.

I have a 1997 Blazer. The ABS light comes on intermittently. When the ABS light is on the power windows and blower motor do not work. When the ABS light is off everything works just fine. Help????

That sounds strange about the power windows and the blower motor not working when the ABS light comes on. I happen to have a 99 Chevy blazer and I had the ABS light come on several times. There are ABS sensors on the two front wheel bearing hubs. If you take off the front wheels you will be able to see a black electrical cable that has 2 wires inside of it. This cable is coming directly from the ABS sensor on the wheel hub and is strapped to a bracket the is on the upper ball joint. From the hub it then goes to a plug connector that is under the protective flap that you lift to change your spark plugs. What I found that is a common problem is that wire tends to corrode or doesn't have enough slack in it when making turns and starts to pull and break. Examine that cable and if you see any breaks in it, that will cause the ABS light to come on. Also if you can get to the plug underneath the flap, unplug it and use a multimeter to see if you are getting any resistance on the two wires. If you aren't getting any resistance then your sensor is bad or you have a broken wire to the sensor. On my vehicle the ABS light kept on coming goin on and off intermitently and I found that wire from the sensor to the plug had a break in it. I stripped the wires back, spliced them together, soldered them and I used heat shrink tubing to cover the connections. The ABS light went out and it has been fine ever since. Hopefully this will solve your problem as well.

1998 f150 abs and park light on fluid good, feel no dragging

ABS light being on could be a bad sensor or broken wire to the sensors. ABS is on the front brakes, check the front wheels inside for wiring going up to the main ABS ecu mounted at the master cylinder. Check the wires from at the bearing assy. then follow up to the ABS ECU or the brain, for any cuts or nicks. You can have a bad wheel sensor you check these with a volt/ohm meter, Find the plug at the wheel and unplug it ck for ohms should read like .018 ohms. If you raise the wheel and spin it you can then read volts, depends on how fast you spin the wheel you can get 2-3 volts. .
