I have a 2003 audi A4 3.0! I hear a knock on the right side when hitting the brakes and i can feel it from the bottom of my feet when ridding in the passenger seat! I also hear it when going over a bump like a clunk noise, im just wondering what that could be?

I have an audi A4 2001. I get a clicking rattling noise intermittently but mostly when i go over a hump or hit the brakesto slow down. I have been told my front engine mounts are split.

@WAyne.. you described two or three issues.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

Add a Commentif you hit the brakes and when you start it clunks.. I am thinking MOTOR MOUNT.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

Add a Commentright side squeaking? when you push down.. shocks squeak.. be a bit more descritpive in your writings.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

The turn left and back to the right clunk sound: ussually comes from a bad tie rod end more oftern an OUTER.. but once in a while an INNER.

Audi Noises and potential clunk descripbed one at a time below.

    1. Sway bar bushings: big floppy clunking when really bad.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

sway bar links ( little C shaped objects.. single clunk some times when shifting weight like driving around a corner

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

LOWER ball joints.. these are the most subjec tto wear and tear.. they fail the most quickly. tend to give the worst symtpoms when driving and the car drives it self back anf forth.. plus the CLUNK when hittin road cracks and pot holes.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

UPPER ball joints.. they fail too and a little bit harder to find.. .but they clunk in a softer stutter clunk sort of way.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

SHOCK TOWERS... the tops of the topw to teh body of the car can clunk if loose.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

the SHOCK or STRUT can clunk inside its connection to the triangle pice that holds the top of the spring in place.

  • dblockd Jul 04, 2014

very bottom of the shock has a rubber bushing that can fail and cause a clunk.. IF you are there.. your shock itself is likely Failed and leaking and flopps repeatedly when you hit a bump in the road... causeing Tire Chudder..

OH.. final CLUNK discription for AUDI and VW.. From reading various forums.. it seems that its possible to buy after matrket ( non dealer parts) and they go on and look and feel great.. but either wear out fast or simple dont fit. one of the reads mentioned a strut "barrel" not being the same size and it clunked back and forth in the top of the spring holder in hte strut assembly when driving around corners..

Automatic 2008 Rav4 Knocking noise when braking

The noise will be in the brake disc rotors and could be the inside face cracked . Have a brake specialist shop do the check as the knocking noise under brakes will have nothing to do with a transmission.

Just bought 2003 GTI for daughters first car when pressing brake pedal I hear a clicking/knocking sound in left front tire area only when applying breaks? had CV axle changed on that side

If it only does it when using the brakes, the problem is most often something with the brake caliper or rotor. The caliper or the pads may be loose.

Front driver side suspension knock over bumps

See if you can bounce car and replicate the noise. If you can, you should be able to find it, and put your hand on it. Stabilizer bushing are a place to look, both at the lower a arm and on the frame. If you narrow it down to the strut, it will need to be replaced. The front trans mount also goes bad, try putting it in drive with your foot on the brake and give it some gas and see if the engine moves an excessive amount.

Your axle bearing is more than likely shot. The right side goes out first for some reason. Fairly inexpensive if you can do it yourself.
