Not if your transmission fluid is at the correct level. These transmissions did not have a serviceable filter and if it is starting to slip, it is likely that is has become plugged up internally and will have to be removed and disassembled to be repaired.
As far as the P and D light staying on, this could be in the neutral saftey switch. Might want to check and see if any of the plugins on the tranns is unplugged also. Usually this is a common this with the problems you are talking about.
It sounds like you have one of a couple problems. First, for the D4 light to be on and flashing, there is a problem the TCM (transmission control module) is seeing. If this is a V6, these transmissions are notorious for having problems internally, and need to be rebuilt at a transmission shop, or replaced. There is also a chance that either the third or fourth gear pressure switches have gone bad they will be the black and brown switches bolted to the top of the transmission. These can also cause this light flashing to occur. I dont understand the rest of your post. If you could clarify what you mean i could try to answer you question a little better
