Make sure that the wire running from the alternator to the battery is not loose or corroded.

Alternator is good, battery is good but battery isnt holding a charge

Confirm the battery test...a bad cell causes a run down in the charge...how old is the battery? A slightly swollen battery on the sides is also an indicator of a bad cell. Confirm the alternator test...this is a free service (on your car) at most parts stores...I have seen a rare starter with a "short" that slowly causes a good battery to loose its charge. Hope this helps.

I have a few problems. First my van won't keep a charge. Second my van seems to not be able to go beyond second gear. Next when it was running it would die for no reason.

If it's not holding a charge you could have a bad battery or the alternator is not putting out enough voltage to keep it charged. Have your battery tested at auto zone or advanced auto. Once the battery is ruled out the next thing to do is check the alternator, this can be done with the alternator installed on the vehicle, if you have a digital multi-meter or volt meter you can check alternator out put at the battery. If your D.C voltage reading is more than 13 volts than your alternator is working. Your transmission issue is probably linked to the electrical issue since it is an electronic transmission, and requires a certain amount of voltage to operate properly.

1997 olds 88 with 6 mo battery, have had problems with heavy corrosion and the last 2 months sometimes will need to jump to start then after driven will start again - how do i tell if this is a bad...

I would have the battery tested and also have the charging system in the car tested. It does sound like the battery isn't holding a charge, but I would make sure the alternator is charging properly.

1997 Cadillac Catera: When the AC is on and the cooling fan comes on the charging guage drops to almost the red. voltage at battery drops from 14.6 to 13.2 and shows undercharge on a battery testing meter....

A charge rate of 13.2 is fine...Likely your battery is getting older and is not charging as well as it used to. You should periodically re-charge the battery using an external charger, as the alternators actual function is to maintain the batteries state of charge, not to re-charge it. Opening the doors, playing the radio with the engine off etc, can and will drain your battery. The alternator will only put a surface charge there and will not actually replace this lost power. I'd begin to worry if charge rate dropped below 12.9.but even then you likely would not have any real problems.

Won't hold a charge

its the battery. the battery holds the charge and the alternator charges it so when you jump the car it stays running because you alternator is providing power when you shut the car off you have a bad battery that isnt holding the charge needed to start it again.

My vehicle will not hold a charge and the alternator and battery test fine

Voltage regulator.....ALMOST POSITIVE, have it tested, they are contained internally in the alternator, any auto parts store should check (ask them to bench test it) it for free, provided you take the alternator to them.
