No radio reception on 2003 Audi A-4 Cabriolet Convertible

Radio suddenly went out (CD still works) on a 2003 Audi A-4 convertible. There isn't an antennae and the rear window on the convertible only has a defroster. What could be the problem?

I too have the same problem, it started on January 10, 2009. I just called an Audi dealer and they told me that it MIGHT be the wiring or the antennae and MIGHT cost $500 to fix! I asked where the antennae was and they told me behind the radio. My CD player also works (thank goodness!).

The problem is probably due to a breakage in the antenna cabling.

The antenna for the A4 cabrio is in the boot (trunk) area.

If you have a multi-unit (sat nav/CD/radio) and the CD and sat nav
still work, but the radio has a poor reception that can be heard
faintly at high volume, try opening the boot (trunk) lid to see if the
    reception picks up.

If it does then you have a breakage in the antenna wiring - it will cost quite a bit to fix due to the labour involved.

Now that the cabrio is over 5 years on the market this problem is becoming more common (unfortunately).

If opening the lid does not make the radio reception change then your fault is not one I have experienced.

My radio went out 2 days ago. But my CD player works fine. I went to an aftermarket place and they thought (without getting off his ****) it was the radio tuner and tried to sell me a new system - $450. I believe it is the antennae so will try opening the boot later today. If anyone finds a solution, let me know.

After reviewing the feedback on these postings I identified the problem them took it to my local car stereo shop. I showed them how by raising and lowering the trunk the signal went in and out. They fixed it for $60 by splicing in some new coax cable. It works great.

I have had this problem and apparently mine was due to a broken arial lead. This needed replacing which is quite time consuming but carried out under warranty. my 53 reg A4 cabriolet was then not yet older than 3 years though.

check and see some radios need a extra ground not just to the frame of the radio. and some antennas have different size plugs make sure it is tight and making contact both places the little one in the middle and the bigger outer one.

No in my experience, 15 years in the Trim industry, you cannot repair that problem you must replace the window section ( if the tiny zipper is still intact) with a new Audi part.

i can,t see why all these should need to be replaced, you need to get a more detailed report of what exactly they want to replace and for what reason in my experience dealerships dealing with roof faults will replace parts one by one untill the problem is fixed and surely the dealer should cover the cost of the repair if the roof faulted after only 3 weeks

Cable running from tuner box in boot lid breaks in the rubber grommet between the lid and the body. To check it is this turn on radio and set to a loud volume, open the boot lid and pull on the grommet by the left hinge, see if you get radio reception cutting in and out. If you do this co axial cable requires replacing, it runs from the boot lid all the way to the radio so I reccommend a specialist repairing it, ideally a Audi one.

2003 BMW CI Convertable Radio/CD Problem

Had the same problem with my '03 330xi. Navigation worked fine but radio and CD did not work at all. I opened the fuse box located in the glove compartment to check the three fuses associated with the navigation system and radio. #7, #39, and #41. All three fuses were intact so I put them back in. I then put the key into the ignition, turned it to position 2 and miraculously the radio came to life. I guess it acted as some type of reset?
