Question about 1988 Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

Somthing broke on the accelerator of my 1990 jeep cherokee, 6 cyl. The gas pedal goes to the floor and the cable at either end can be pulled without affecting the other end, but the cables do not pull out. I assume the cable is broken but could it be somthing else like some connection between the two cables? or is the accelerator cable one single continuous cable ? If it is why dosn't the cable now pull completely out of its sheathing?. The cable at the engine side seems to be under some type of spring/return tension. I can't figure out how the cable is run or linked to the engine throttle. can you clarify this for me? Rick

Fairly easy to repair, Obviously the cable is broken. Just follow it back. it runs through the firewall from the pedal to the throttle body. if you have cruise control it may go there (I don't remember and am too lazy to go look at mine) Either way, get a new cable and put it in!!!

My 04 Mazda rx8 acceleration Cable goes to the floor and car won't go

My guess is that either something is sticking or the cable broke or there is a return spring on the pedal or the gas throttle that may have come off or broke

1996 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 L has trouble accelerating

often times the engine needs to warm up to normal operating temperature. this varies from makes and models. if you cant wait that long, having it idle for approximately 5 - 10 minutes should at least lessen the acceleration problem, but the longer you wait the better it will be on the engine.

Gas Pedal Sticks

When my car had this problem it was frayed cable. The frayed wires can catch on the inside of the cable jacket or at the end of the cable. That would be my suggestion.

My '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo broke down. No reaction when the accelerator pressed. Any ideas? Evidently, it is not the relay switch.

i would look at the acutal gas line that goes from the tank to the input or i would look at the gas cable that goes from the pedal to the accelerator and see if it came disconnected. all you would have to do is connect that back up if it did come disconnected and then you should be good.
