2005 Magnum Noise on Cold Start

Hi,
I also have a 2005 Magnum, SXT, 3.5 V6. Same problem...On cold starts, there is almost what sounds like a loud rumbling...Once car warms up and I go a mile or so, noise is gone....Dodge dealer cant find anything...Have you had any further luck with your problem???

Update.....Took car into dealer...The noise is not coming from the engine or the exhaust system. Their assessment is that the noise is due to a failing hydraulic motor mount. Once car warms up and travels a short distance, mount functions.

I just started to experience this problem, too, once temp dropped below 20F. Dealrer replaced EGR valve.& performed fuel injection clean/maint...still makes noise-like space shuttle on lift off. Noise goes away once engine warms up. Checked entire exhaust--no leaks. I'll have them check out engine mount, but I doubt it. I tend to think a small crack in engine block somewhere.

I have a similar loud noise during cold starts.  Not sure if this is at all related to the noise you guys are experiencing.

Mine is more of a grinding sound that I am almost certain is the starter gear failing to disengage quickly enough from the flywheel.  Once the engine gets going, the starter gear grinds briefly as a result of not being out of the way in time.  The colder it is the longer the sound.  20 degrees, half a second, -10 degrees a full second or more. My theory is that the grease in and around the starter plunger is too tacky in cold temperatures and it prevents the plunger from extracting the starter gear in a timely fashion.

The tapping, I think, from the limited information, is the Valves not getting the Oil due to low oil pressure. Once the engine warms up, and the Oil pump starts to flow the oil, the tapping stops. Many vehicles, do this. I would not be overly concerned about the tapping, but I would be concerned about the coolant leak. An easy way to see if you have an external leak is to go to a local parts store, and purchase a leak test kit, which usually is a dye, which can be seen with a blacklight. Take vehicle to repair facility and have a Carbon Block Test done

You may want to try and pull fuse 11 or unplug the negative battery terminal for 10-15 seconds and reconnecting/inserting.  You can also try a key dance to check for an internal errors, im not sure if a window motor would throw any however.

SOURCE: 2005 dodge magnum 3.5 liter engine. 10 deg start engine noise

these have a problem with the overhead cams, one or more of the bolts break which restricts the oil flow to the lifters.

Steering Wheel noise on cold start

this is either a loose belt, or low power steering fluid. Remember that Honda uses a diffrent power steering fluid from everyone else. Make sure it is a Honda compatable fluid, or you will get leaks.

Loud sweeking noise at start, when cold outsides

most likely your alternator, when it is cold and you start the alternator needs to recharge a heavy discharge, bearings or slip ring worn. also check the drive belt for wear,

Loud Sqeaul/screech from engine upon start up

could be your alternator. at start up. alternator usually has a big load because you just use your starter. it would recharge the battery and after a while the battery would be fully charge, the squealing noise will be gone.

check also all the belts if they are individual belts. use some belt dressings to eliminate the noise. sometimes the belt are just worn out and it would also make these noises.

tnx 4 using fixya,
