they are cable connected at the back of the levers
if you have a good mazda wreckers they may still be available but as they are solid wire in a case , any solid cable can be cut and bent to do the job
If your tach does not work that is a symptom. Of course a timing light is most useful. If not you can coil wires (swap with known good wire) ; check ignitor,(swap trail/lead ignitor plugs at distributor) coil, check with ohm meter.
Trailing ignitors are very common failures, especially when either jump starting or being jump started when a battery is stone dead. What happens is there can be a huge power spike through the ignition system damaging the electronics in the ignitor. 90% of trailing ignitor failures happen during a jump start procedure.
At this age though, wires and coils can be suspect. My recommendation for ignition parts, Mazda Mitsubishi Cap/rotor and NGK wires and plugs. They are good enough for Mazda factory race teams and I have been using them since 72 with no ignition related failures in racing or all the street vehicles that have been maintained. Most critical is the fit of the rotor, it should be very hard to install, very tight fit. If loose the rotors have a tendency to rotate and move causing changes in timing and at worse damaging the cap and rotor.
Yes. Before you go brand new, however, look around on E-Bay or at a junk yard-you can usually find what you need right there, and with some relays to prevent issues, you can get better than new. On the other hand, A magazine like http://www.blackdragonauto.com/features/rx/RX.htm might have a good wiring set. I trust that magazine- I get a sister production, LMC trucks, and they're reasonable priced, and good quality parts.
On the RX7 it will most likely be a fuse. If you do not have a service manual refer to automd.com and search for the basic guide on replacing a fuse. Should you need specifications, head over to your local auto parts dealer for a book outlining the specifics on your fuse box or module.
well, when you turn off the rotary it leaves oil and gas.so when you start it up, it burns off the oil you left causeing blueish smoke. same problem with flooding, when you drive short distance , warmup incorrectly or if use synthetic oil.to fix the cause of flooding(i have the same vehicle and problems)let it warm up for at least 15 min.there is also a fuel pump wire next to the fuse box located above the brake pedal.then you tap a switch from the fuel pump to your interior.the reoson being is so whenever you come to a stop to park flip the swith.that allows the rotar to burn the fuel left in the pump witch will make your rx7 to stutter out and die.when you start it back up ,flip the swicth back on and it will take an extra second for it to crank over.1 more thing, check your oil every 2-3 fills on gas and change oil every 2000 miles.also redline it at least one a week. i hope i just solved your problem because i love my 87 non turbo and know how you feel.if you want to look at cheap aftermarket parts for rx7 then go to srmotorsports.com/rx7guru.com is a guy that test parts to tell people wats good and cheap for rx7s.i would recomend roll cage and 5 point harness-seats.good luck with your rx7 bro
