Question about 2007 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Wagon
On my 02 Outback Sport, the dash clock was intermittently dissapearing and reappearing for about two months before completely calling it quits. I haven't found any loose wires or blown fuses. Anyone else had this happen?
That is a very common problem with the Impreza/WRX clocks. I offer a very affordable solution (as well as removal instructions) at:

The problem is almost certainly the LED dimmer resistor. A primative design uses a resistor to dim the clock display. The resistor heats up which causes the solder joint to become fragile and break. Take out the clock (unclip the bezel, then a couple of screws.). The resistor is quite large and will be discolored. The broken joints will be quite obvious and probably quite white. Just resolder the two joints and you're back in business. If you're not comfortable with soldering the service already mentionned by another poster will do the same thing. The repair will last for a few years, longer the less you drive with the headlights on (clock dimmed). Soryy I don't have any pictures of the repair but I'm pretty sure you can find some video on Youtube. BTW it's amazing that Subaru has used this archaic technology for so long and knowing it isn't reliable. I wasn't surprised to find this clock in my 1993 Loyale which was basically a 1990 cheapo design at the time but in a recent impreza the design is positively primitive.
