Ambient temp sensor on chevy impala is reading -40

We changed the sensor and still get the same reading. car was involved in front end collision. not the sensor, already ruled that out. outside temp is really like 80deg and the ac won't work if the car thinks it's freezing outside

If you replaced the right sensor, there must be a problem in the wiring to the computer.
You did reset the computer - hit ac and recirculate buttons at the same time ??

There's a feed from the engine coolant temperature sensor into the AC controller as if the controller thinks the engine is overheating it'll shut down the AC to reduce the load on the cooling system

Try unplugging the cooling sensor on the engine ( follow the radiator top hose back to the engine as the sensor is close to this) and see if this replicates the problem, if it does then you know thats the issue.so the coolant temperature sensor needs to be replaced.

--------------
Also the possibility is faulty evaporator temp sensor. It may be sending a false signal to the climate control module that the evap is around freezing temperature thus shutting down the compressor. The evaporator temp sensor is located on the evaporator housing, in the a/c system, and monitors the temp to prevent the evaporator from freezing up. If the AC control module sees the temp going too low, it will send a communication message to the pcm to turn off the a/c compressor until the evap temp returns to an acceptable range. The other possibility is the high pressure switch located on the line in the right hand side whell arch. Why I mentioned the high pressure switch because as the temp increases the pressure in the system increases and if the ECU sees this signal from that pressure switch in the wheel well on the a/c line it will shut down the compressor. You can test this with a digital voltmeter or install a set of gauges to the high and low side service ports and see where the pressure go. It also may be the temp sensor element on the compressor itself. ----------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: Temp Sensor

The temp sensor known as the engine coolant temp. sensor tells the computer if the engine is overheating and so forth and tells the injectors how much fuel to give the engine. The temp. sending unit is what controls what your guage reads. It sounds like you need the temp. sending unit. It located near the thermostat housing with a single pole connector.

SOURCE: temperature control sensor?

Sounds like a loose connection -38 is probably the open circuit position. Not sure where the sensor would be though.

The alternator is not charging,or the battery wont take a charge. If all accessories work fine when its running after you've boosted it,its likely the battery.

How do i calibrate ambient temperature sensor on a 2013 impala

You do not. If you suspect the sensor is defective replace it. If you are referring to the outside temp that is displayed on your screen or speedometer, read about it online. The temp will not change to a higher number unless certain criteria is met. Such as speed distance between stops. Temp will change to lower number faster.

06 rendezvous that the digital temp display for outside temp is wrong. The display reads 32 degree and it is actually 80 degrees so the A/C does not cool vehicle down. What is the problem?

Suspect a failure in the ambient air temp sensor. Has the vehicle ever been in a frontal collision? This sensor is normally located in front of the radiator assembly bolted to the rad support. If it is reading a cold temperature, it will not allow the AC to operate

I replaced my temp sensoe and it reads ccd

Hi Glenn, I'm glad to help! Here's how you check the Ambient Temp Sensor circuit itself to see if its working properly. Disconnect the Ambient Temp Sensor Connector. If the temp reading go to the default mode it will show 40 degrees. If it doesn't go to 40 Degrees then thyere something wrong with the system. Could be wiring or display itself. If it does go to 40 degrees then I'd try another sensor and see what happens. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Glenn.

WHAT DOES THE AMBIENT SENSOR CONNECT TO FROM THE SENSOR ITS SELF? DOES IT CONNECT TO THE COMPUTER OR INTAKE MANIFOLD

Hi Joe, I'm glad to help! The ambient temp sensor connects to the "Front Control Module" and when working properly will send the signal from the sensor to the overhead as well as other places that need an ambient signal. NOTE: Heres a simple way to see if the system is working properly. Unhook the connector at the Ambient Temp Sensor and the system should go to the default setting and the overhead display should read 40 degrees. If it does then the system is OK, replace the temp sensor. If it doesn't read 40 then various test must be performed to see if its the front control module or the overhead control unit. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Joe.

Air conditioner will not come on. The tempeture gage is reading -40. The sensor is not reading properly.

Hi ruswashingto,

The air conditioner may not work properly if your ambient temp is reading -40. The a/c control unit monitors ambient temp so that it does not operate at too low outside temps. I would recommend fixing the ambient temp sensor and rechecking your a/c operation.

My outdoor air temp. reads -56 degrees when starting car, real air temp is 80, it keeps the a/c from turning on.

Hello, this is usually caused by a bad outside air temp sensor. the sensor is mounted behind the front grill, it has one connector with two wires pluged into it.
here is a picture of the sensor

This reading is a default setting and it looks like the ambient temp sensor is either faulty or missing, it should be located in the front lower plastic panels under the front bumper. hope this is of some help and if the sensor is missing/damaged you will not be able to reset it
