Question about 2000 Volvo S70
Just out of curiosity what does the protectant on your key look like. I had a problem similar and the black rubber type protectant around the key base was worn down pretty well. After having a new key made never had the problem again.( note ck another spare key if it is not worn and see if it still dies ) GOOD LUCK

If it started after the damage was done to the intercooler pipe, then that is where you should focus. A leak in that pipe/hose will cause the problem you mention.
I would guess the check engine light is on, but even if it's not, get the codes checked.
