Leaking antifreeze from the bottom of car

My heater is getting warm. But windows are foggying up and antifreeze is leaking from the bottom of the car. Could this be that my heater coil need completely replacing or are there other options to look at? There is not a leak on the inside of the car. If my heater coil need replacing is it something I can do myself? Thanks!

This is most likely the heater core. You'll see the anti-freeze leak sometimes outside the truck because some heater boxes have a drain tube for this reason. Of course, it could possibly be a loose heater hose connection or a leaking 'diverter or bypass valve'. Most often it is the heater core though. Pay extra attention to your coolant level until it's repaired, so as not to run low on coolant and overheat your engine.

Most heater cores can be replaced with just basic mechanical knowledge and tools. Click here for a step-by-step video of how to go about it. Good luck!

It sounds like your heater core is bad, especialy if you're getting a residue fog from your defrost. It is leaking underneath because your air box inside your dash has a drain spout to drain condensation from your a/c condenser. You will need to replace it, and don't use the stop leak pellets, because it will contaminate your cooling system, and cause more problems down the line, like overheating.

It sounds like you have diagnosed the fault already, the leak is not obvious inside the car because the coolant is draining through the A/C vent which is why it's comming out the bottom of the car. The only permanent fix is to replace the matrix and this is possible yourself if you have a certain amount of mechanical knowledge, day to spare & the right tools. Best advice is to purchase a workshop manual and see what it involves before you start. Please don't be tempted to use a coolant "Leak Stop" additive as thes only provide a short term fix and clog up the rest of the cooling system. Hope this helps & good luck !

Sounds like the heater core is leaking. Locate where it is and see if antifreeze is leaking out the bottom.

1999 ford expedition. smells like antifreeze in the cab, worse when I turn on air conditioner ?? I saw a leak today at the firewall. I drove it about 5 miles stopped the car and it hasnt leaked...

This is likely the heater core leaking. Once it turns cold you will have foggy windows too.

When the heat is turned off the antifreeze stops flowing through the heater core, once it was all gone the leak would have stopped until the next time you need heat.

Problem: the interior windows become so foggy that they won't get clean and driving at night is dangerous. There is what seems to be radiator fluid on the passenger's side floor board. No matter how much...

Your heater core is located up behind your glove box. This is like a little radiator like under your hood. Air blows thru this to heat your car thru the heater. The liquid IS antifreeze, you have a leak in the system somewhere. The fog is humidity due to the leak.

Heater core leaking antifreeze to under carpet of passenger side plus the front wisheild gets foggy

Check to be sure the heater hoses aren't leaking where they connect to the heater core, if they aren't then your heater core is leaking. Best to just replace it.

How do u bleed the hoses from the radiator u can smell the antifreeze in the car need to know if it may be a hoses or something less

If you smell antifreeze inside the car then you probably have a bad heater core causing the coolant to leak inside you vehicle and giving you the antifreeze smell which will make you sick. If you windshield is all foggy and hard to clear and the right passenger floorboard is wet then your heater core is leaking.

You can drain the coolant out of your car by taking off the lower radiator hose. This will get most of the coolant out of your car. If you have a hose leaking under the hood you may smell coolant inside the car, but it shouldnt be too bad, if you have a leaking hose however it should be pretty obvious and your car may even be overheating.

Windows get like a foggy film and smells like old antifreeze. i think its my heater core? its a 95 bronco & where is it located exactly on that model?

Dear Foggy Film......
You are correct!!! This foggy film is the result of the antifreeze leaking and then evaporating inside the cab of the vehicle. The heater core on this vehicleis located inside the evaporator case inside the vehicle's cab on the firewall up underneath the dash closer to the passenger's side. It involves about three hours labor to replace the heater core. This is a moderate to mildly intensive repair for the first timer..if you have any more questions then you're more than welcome to get back to me!!!! HOPE I COULD HELP!!!

Heater blows cold air from top vents after running for 1.3 hours

Sounds like you may be able to fix it by flushing your antifreeze and back flushing the heater core. Some car owners cheep out and put stop leak into the antifreeze, others dont change there antifreeze at all. Both are mistakes.
