    hi,

i have the same problem 2001 plate Y reg i have but it is miss firing in cylinder 3, when the mechanic removed it he claimed it had oil in it, hence the reason why it was not making a good connection. he said he put a sealent in it to seal any leaks etc, but did not make much difference just isnt reving itself while in neutrel but making a very loud noise.

taking it back to a mechanic on monday will let you know how it goes although people keep telling me different things are wrong with it.

Hi am no genius but is your car fuel injected ,if so maybe the injector maybe partly blocked and can cause the miss firing of the cylinder. maybe try some good carby cleaner ,it may help

06 Cobalt LT 2.2 misfire on #1 cyl. Local parts check code

misfires can be caused by plugs , HT leads and coil/s-- AND--- bad injectors, low fuel pressure. Pull the injector for no 1 and have it checked out.as t may be the injector or the wires and connections for that injector. Make sure that the HT leads are not touching each other as it may cause a misfire on the cylinder as well

What does the check engine flashing mean on a 99 vw bettle?

typically any flashing light is a misfire, which could create cat convertor failure.
codes will be something with 300 via 301 cyl 1, 302 cyl 2 etc. Many things can
cause this via plugs, wires, coolant temp sensor, maf and so on. Suggest getting
it checked out asap.

Check Engine Light see codes below

P0171 is LEAN and P0303 is misfire number 3 cyl. Its time to stop guessing and pay for a correct diagnosis. Find a shop that works on VW and has the tools to work on it. DO NOT put those Bosch Platinum Spark plugs in that Ottozone tries to sell everybody.

Have fault code P0302 on 2001 VW Beetle. No it is Cylinder 2 misfire. What is likely cause, bad spark plug, wire, or Electronic ignition box?

this car has what is called coil over ignition which means no plug wires or cap so if it is missing swap coil from cyl 2 and any other cyl then clear code and rerun car till light comes back on then check code if it is still cyl 2 missfire then replace that plug if code changes to the cylinder that 2's coil was on then replace that coil <that car does have a recall for coils> if car is not missing and you have that code most likely isnt an ignition problem but will have a small vaccume leak so check the small hoses for leaks. very common for fuel preasure regulater vaccume hose to brake from age

98 vw beetle misfiring after rain. New plugs, coil cas cracks????

Hi, Yes it certainly could be especially if water gets in. You should also check the distributor cap. The misfire sounds like an arcing problem so it would have to be one of those two things since you changed the rest. Good Luck!

My 2 litre petrol beetle has developed a random misfire on cylinder 4. We have replaced the HT lead and spark plug but the problem persists. what else could be causing it?

its only an idea but the engine management on the early beetles was a bit primative if your confident swap the injectors over from nos 1-4 and then see if the random missfire moves from cylinders 4 to 1 if it does then you have an injector fault if not let me know as i am a vw master -tech hope this helps
as far as jennablackies fault goes it could be as simple as damaged plug leads which would cause a missfire have you got any fault codes because its obviously nothing to do with cat/lamda probes
