Question about 1995 Cadillac Eldorado

My 1995 eldorado burns oil

My 1995 eldorado is going through oil at about a quart every 200-500 miles. The exhaust is not smoky, there are no leaks. The tail pipes are sooty. Could this be a PCV problem or is the engine starting to go?

Take out the pvc while its running. Look for smoke to come out of pvc hole. If it does than you probably need rings. This would explain the oil loss. Look around the motor for oil "wet spots". You may just have a valve cover leak.Shake the pvc while its out. If it rattles its good. If not, replace. Hope it helps.

Why is my 2007 300c burning oil

You do not say how much oil the car is burning. One quart every 1000 miles is ok. Cars with 75000 miles or higher are likely to burn more oil than cars with less mileage. Try using high mileage motor oil. If excessive smoke is coming out of your exhaust pipe, you are either leaking oil through the piston oil rings or valve seals. Then you will need an expensive repair.

1995 300zx oil consumption

If it's not leaking from the engine, and it's not being burned (blue smoke out the tailpipe), the only other place for it to go would be into the coolant system, but that would only happen with a bad head or head gasket. Do you have an overabundance of coolant?

It is normal to use over a quart of oil before oil change

My 1993 voyager is like that. It may burn some , it definitely leaks some , and it could be just sending some through the PCV valve. Oil leaks and burning oil causes pollution . If you can fix it with a new seal or a valve cover gasket it is easier than constantly checking your oil. Temperature, trailering, speed, outdoor temperature, and engine RPM all can be factors if you are losing oil. If your engine is a quart down, the engine oil consumption rate doubles or triples. In other words the lower the oil level the faster it disappears. High mile cars will drive for years as long as you add oil when it is needed (keep the oil level between the marks). Fix any obvious leaks. Then determine your oil change interval (3000 miles, 4000 miles, 5000 miles). I change between 4000 and 5000 miles. If i am a quart low at 3500 I add a quart. If I am a quart low at 4500 miles I just change the oil in the car. A good practice is to carry a quart of oil in your vehicle just in case you need it. It is far cheaper to add a quart when needed than to go to the dealer once to maybe fix a problem that they may not be able to find or fix. Older engines (even some newer ones) just use oil , especially in hotter climates. Fix the obvious and carry a quart.

04 Grand Prix oil leak

if it is not leaking then it is being burned by the engine, how many miles go by before you need to add oil?, if u are adding more than one quart every 1000 miles u have piston reing problems and or valve guide seal leaks. U won't see any smoke in most cases unless you are really going through the oil, like 1 quart every 300 miles.

2003 F150 4.6 w/ 90K miles using a quart of oil every 3 weeks. what's most likely cause?

A V8 engine will start to consume more oil as they get more and more
miles on them. The valve stem seals and piston rings wear, and let
more and more oil burn off in the exhaust. How many miles are you
travelling in said 3 weeks?

2006 Town & Country burning oil excessively. 40,000 miles; burning 1 quart every 1000 miles; no signs of the oil anywhere

At 40K miles it shouldn't burn that much oil, unless the motor has been abused or overheated. With no signs of oil leaks, the engine must be burning it via the exhaust,

Change the oil (use a good quality oil) and then observe oil consumption.

If it still uses excessive oil check further as below:-
1) if it blows blue smoke on steady accelleration (pistons or ring wear),
or
2) only blows blue smoke on initial accelleration after a period of steady coasting or de-celleration (faulty valve stem oil seals).

My 2000 isuzu trooper seems to use oil a little, I've checked the antifreeze-nothing,spark plugs look fine, and no smoke out the back....I can't figure out were the oil goes... Any ideas I would appreciate...

How much is a little oil? 1 quart(US) in 5000 miles is reasonable oil consumption. If you don't have any major leaks, the oil is going out the exhaust pipe. As the engine wears the piston rings dont seal as well as they used too and the oil gets burned in the combustion process. You didnt mention how many miles you have on the vehicle, An engine with 150,000-175,000 is going to burn a little oil..

Very smokie when started but ok then all day

could be valve stem seals. when it sits the oil leaks down into the cylinders and is burned off when first started. isn't noticible when driving because not a lot of oil leaking into cylinders until it sits for a while and accumlates
