No purchase a mechanical manual from your auto parts dealer. they are now specialized to almost every car. if its a side mount engine you will more than likely have to take the tire offf and the wheel well. to give yourself enough rum to play in and see the timing marks on the crank gear and cam gear for proper alignment for the new install. F.Y.I. It helps if you get them into the proper alignment before you remove the old one by placing the crank shaft bolt back in after you remove the cover and turning it with a socket wrench until they are close to the picture in the book. there may also be a slack adjuster behind the cover. Be careful and do it by the book and make sure your replace any and all gaskets you remove. NEVER reuse a gasket. As a matter of fact when you purchase the timing gear and chain set. Purchase what they call a Timing chain change out gasket set. It will have every gasket you'll need to replace. Good Luck.

SOURCE: Timing Chain and Valves

I think it's an interference engine but you can check quite easily at this point if the valves are bent. Pull all the spark plugs out, turn the crank so that all the pistons are 1/2 way down their bore, get a piece of fuel line that is just the right size to thread into the plug holes or a special fitting for this purpose, and blow into each cylinder after you have turned the cams in succession so that the valves should be closed at the hole you are blowing into. If a valve is bent, you won't have any trouble blowing into the cylinder. If it's good, you won't be able to blow very well at all.

SOURCE: im replacing timing belt, accessory belts and water pump on my hyundai elantra gls 1997 sta wgn auto transmission. (1)Where is bolt to drain engine block coolant?(2)After removing front engine mountin

(1) No need to know if engine block coolant drain plug was available. Once the water pump was removed, all engine block coolant was drained. (2) After removing the three engine mounting bracket bolts, I also removed the mount bracket from the the body and made enough room to replace the timing belt easier.

SOURCE: Need to replace clutch

hands down the trans...under optimal conditions I have done this repair in under an hour. If you were to remove the engine for this repair you are going to struggle aligning the input shaft from trans into new clutch plate when re-assembling. The trans is so light weight a jack is not entirely needed at all and no fluids, coolant or oil would have to be drained as well.If the exhaust Y pipe comes down without any bolt removal problems ,you are basically home free but do remeber to drive out the roll pins in the DOJ (transmission side axle joint)

2004 Nissan Pulsar n16 - 238,000 km - is it necessary to also replace timing chain when replacing head gasket please?

It is generally recommended to replace the timing chain along with the head gasket if the vehicle has high mileage like yours. The timing chain is an important component in the engine that ensures proper timing and synchronicity between the crankshaft and camshaft. Over time, the timing chain can stretch and become worn, which can cause it to skip teeth and affect the engine's performance.

Replacing the timing chain along with the head gasket is a good preventative measure to ensure that the engine runs smoothly and reliably after the repair. Additionally, it can save you time and money in the long run by avoiding future repairs.

However, it ultimately depends on the condition of the timing chain. If it appears to be in good condition and has been regularly maintained, it may not need to be replaced. It's best to consult with a trusted mechanic or automotive professional who can assess the condition of the timing chain and recommend the appropriate course of action.

How to replace timing chain on 2001 dodge intrepid 2.7

It's a BIG job. It requires removing everything from the top of the engine (intake manifold, throttle body, all plumbing, valve covers) then removing the harmonic damper, most of the accessories, and then the timing cover. That's just to get to the timing chain. You have to remove the chain guides and tensioner, then cam gears and crank gear. If you're going this route, also replace the two chains (intake cam to exhaust cam) on top of the heads, the water pump, and the tensioners. Be very precise in reinstalling the three timing chains so that everything is in time.
The link shows the details of the chain itself, but be aware that your engine is packed into your Intrepid with limited work space in some areas.

How to change the cam chain pads on the driver side of a vw 2001 passat V6 2.8l

You surely do. You should invest in a manual. Timing is a critical part of any engine. The manual tells you to move every thing from the front of the vehicle. I just remove enough to let the radiator and bumper hang off the lower hoses. This is enough room to accomplish what you need to do. I suggest strongly that you replace all the parts of the timing. You only want to do this once.

I have a 2.7 engine 06 chrysler300. Need to change watter pump how do you do it

The water pump on this vehicle is driven off the timing chain. You need to pull most of the front of the engine off to get access to it, including removal of the timing chain. This is not a job for the uninformed. Any error in removal/replacement can and will cause permanent engine damage. Unless you are really skilled at engine mechanics, leave this job to the pros.

Can you tell me when I should change the timing chain on my 1995 Olds 98 Regency Elite? It has the 3.8 L series II V6. I currently have 116,000 miles. Also, are there performance mufflers with...

If it has a timing CHAIN, I wouldn't bother replacing it until you need a valve job or engine rebuild. The timing chain should last quite a while, especially since it is being lubricated as the engine runs.
However, if it has a timing BELT, at 116,000 miles, you're past due.

It won:t starts. How do u change timing chain

Hi,

you will be needing the following for this operation:

  1. Combination Wrenches
  2. A Socket Set
  3. Torque Wrench
  4. A Harmonic Balancer Puller
  5. A Three-jaw Gear Puller
  6. Screwdrivers
  7. Hammer and Punch
  8. Gasket Scraper
  9. Timing Light
  10. Tube of Silicone Sealer
  11. Timing Chain Cover Gasket Set
  12. New Timing Chain and Gears
  13. Drain Pan
  14. Antifreeze
  15. Jack
  16. Jack stands
Before You Start:
  • Follow these instructions carefully. Read and be sure you understand them before you begin.
  • Gather together all of your tools and supplies before you begin.
  • Allow plenty of time to do the job so you don't have to hurry.
  • Remember that these are general instructions. For more detailed instructions pertaining to your specific vehicle, consult an appropriate repair manual.
  • Safety is important whenever you're working around machinery. Beware of hot objects, sharp instruments and hazardous materials.
  • Don't substitute tools unless you're sure you won't compromise either your safety or the performance of your vehicle.
  • Never work on a vehicle that is only supported by a jack. Use jack stands to support the vehicle while you work. Work on a solid, level surface. Never jack a car up on dirt or grass.

Why Replace Your Timing Chain? Over time, wear on internal working parts of your engine will spell the need for replacement. One of the internal working parts that wear is the timing chain and timing sprockets. The timing chain and sprockets are the connecting line between the crankshaft and the camshaft. As the crankshaft turns, via the timing chain, it drives the camshaft that operates the engine's valves via the lifters, push rods and rocker arm assemblies The timing of the valves opening and closing at precise intervals is crucial for proper engine operation. As the timing chain and sprockets wear, this precise timing of the valves gradually changes, eventually to a point where replacement is necessary.
Telltale signs of worn out timing chains are:
  • Rough idle.
  • Sluggish performance and poor economy.
  • Sudden engine performance change including the inability to start the engine.
  • Intermittent backfire through the intake manifold.
  • Inconsistent ignition timing or a clattering noise coming from the front of the engine. Before starting the disassembly procedures, I would suggest cleaning the engine with an engine degreaser. A clean engine is easier to work on and helps prevent dirt or contamination from entering the engine during disassembly.

  • Call for a mechanic help if the task is too much for you.

    Best regards.

hi, as far as i can remember its impossible to do the work without removing the whole lot as you just have not got enough room to get the tools in to get the job done, you could contact your nearest main dealers technical department but im pretty sure that the last one we did here we had to take the whole lot out as we could not get the tools in as their just isnt enough room they build these engine big enough to fill the engine bay leaving you no room to carry out these type of repairs so taking the engine out is the only way your going to get this work carried out.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok.

Make sure you purchase a workshop manual as this will give you all the correct settings your going to need ok

    Chain broke

If the engine is running ok, leave it be. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time and no ther issues exist with the performance, you may want to replace the chain, but you'll have to replace other parts as well. Cam shaft gear, crankshaft gear and chain should be replaced at the same time, gaskets, front seal, oil pan gaskets to name a few. Its a big job. I don't know the history of your engine, but I'm sure other parts will need replacing before the chain. Just a thought.
