Check the o2 sensor, throttle body, vaccum lines, that timing and spark is correct and working on all cylinders( broken plug or wires), try the module on the distributor sometimes that can do it to but usally it runs good then gets bad as engine warms, to me is sounds like timing which also could be in the valvetrain or in the chain and gears in front... hopefully this gets you started in the right direction

Engine jerks, then smooths out, runs rough, misses, smells like sulfur, loss of power

sounds like a restricted catalytic converter. you must, however find out why it got restricted, or it will happen again, from the sulphur smell, i suspect engine is running rich. you need a pro to help you with this problem.

I have a 99 gmc sierra with 5.3 it takes about 7 seconds to start

Needs a valve adjustment. I assume its EFI, eliminating the possibility of the carb.

1993 nissian p/u run rich and it running real rough

If it is a carb engine have the air fuel mixture corrected by adjusting the screws on the carb. Try also adjusting the idling.

For EFI engines see if you can check the Idle Control Solenoid Valve, have it cleaned. You can also check the oxygen sensor if it is working or not

My 1998 Olds 88 has been stalling and running rough.

Check and clean the IAC valve. Idle Control Valve. Use brake cleaner or carburater cleaner . Remove the duct work from the air filter assembly. It is located just inside . Run the engine at 1200 rpms and spray the valve. The valve can also be removed and cleaned.
