I think the ignition switch is the cause of this problem, I think there is a recall, this is not the ignition key lock cylinder but the electric switch it operates through a linkage rod when u turn your key.

There is a central component called a body computer among other names. I would think this would cause all of the problems that you are describing.

sounds like might b a main fuse. do u have a kick panel and a box under the hood? sometimes a main relay or fuse will cause many electric things to go out.

When I start my 96 ford Taurus I have no radio or windshield wipers or speedometer. But when turn key backwards radio and wipers work

I am betting it is your ignition switch- it is just like any other type of switch, in that it has contacts that eventually wear out. Once you turn the key to start the car, it returns to a position that maintains the contacts to power your accessories, and it sounds like those contacts inside the ignition switch are worn or broken. The "acc" contacts when you turn the key backward are rarely used so they are still in good shape, unlike the "run" contacts which get hit every time you start the car.

I have a 1999 Mercury Sable with a 3.0 24V DOHC. I got into it this morning and noticed the radio, clock, heater, (whole panel is out) and windshield wipers, speedometer and tack are all not working. But...

It might be worth your time to replace the ignition switch. The power through the switch is working off the Acc lead for most of the things that work while the car is not running, so the wires are still connected.

I have a bmw 523i se and the windscreen wipers wont work have tried changing the fuse in the glove compartment but still wont work

it's normal, windshield wipers in bmws are connected to the speedometer since the old E36 3series, so they stop whenever you stop your car. If they start again once the car moves there's nothing wrong with your car!
