Question about 1996 Audi A4

1 Answer

Hello, I have an Audi A4 98 left-hand drive and this will make the third fuel pump i have to change for the year. The electric pumps were all brand new. Well I am assuming that fuel pump may be dead again. I was driving my car then the car just shut off on me, when i tried to start it hold for 3 seconds then shut off. Then I tried a few more times then it didn't even turn overby the way it was just under half tank I never ran my car ever on empty. Four hours later I tried starting it then it stayed on for about 6 seconds then shut off. I really love my car but its tuff to keep up with all the expenses I ran into with this car.

Audi a6 with 2.4 engine

Hello.

Can be alot of causes. Most common:

Egr clap closed - doesn t allow air intake - car also blows black smoke while cranking.

Fuel intake
- low pressure fuel pump - located inside the fuel tank - may be burnt
- high pressure fuel pump - engine bay - also may be burnt
- not enough fuel inside the tank
- fuel leaks before reaching injectors

etc

Hope it helps

2006 lincoln ls wont start? where is the fuel pump located

I changed the fuel pump on my 2000 LS a few years ago. The system is kinda odd. The actual electric fuel pump is in the tank on the right side. The tank is directly below the rear seat. If you remove the seat bottom you will find a 6 inch or so cover. Under the cover there is a plastic, threaded collar that locks the fuel pump into the tank. The driver's side also has a pump, but it works only my venturi effect from the electric pump on the other side. This pump is used to equalize the fuel level from left to right. The drive shaft tunnel prevents all but the very top of the tank from communicating left to right. Also, I would go with a factory pump. It comes with the whole pump, connectors, filter, Pickup, etc. I tried a parts house pump at first. It was only $50 less and only came with the motor.

Poppin fuel pump fuse sometimes

If you're blowing the fuse to the fuel pump, then you have a short either in the pump itself or in the electrical wiring going to the pump. When you make the left turn, a bare wire could be hitting the frame rail or some other metal surface and causing the short. I would trace the electrical wires from the engine compartment all the way back to the pump to see if that is the case, if it's the pump itself, I'd go buy a new one. You should be able to get a Master brand pump for $100 or less instead of buying a more expensive dodge pump that you don't really need.
