Cable broken - how do I open the door to try and fix

It's likely the fuse. The fuse diagram is in your owners manual. The fuse box is on the side of the dash when you open your driver's door. That should solve your issue.

I listened the same problem with one Boxter when the battery went dead. They
called the Porsche dealer and he offered a suggestion that worked
great: Go to a auto part store and buy a small battery that plugs into
your cigarette lighter for the purpose of starting cars when batteries
are dead. Leave it plugged in for about 20 minutes and it gives you
enough charge to open your hood latch. Make sure your door is open when
you go to pop the latch, as they was sitting in my car with the door closed
and trying to figure out why it wasnt working.
Now they always keep one
charged in my glove box.
Other its
pull hood release latch, located on the driver side left foot.
Good luck.

not sure here ,ok to be honest i dont know but the first thing i would do is to remove the door panels and give all the linkage a good oil with a oil can with engine oil in it ,where the solonoid is that operates the door lock for the central locking i would make sure the operating rod coming out of it got plenty and if i can get to it i would pull the rubber dust cover up and try to get some oil in their as well ,Now i dont know if this would work but it works on the VW golf and polos i work on and the porsche uses parts common to these cars

It sounds like it could be the plastic connecting bit that links the lock tumbler lever to the rod that operates the door lock mechanism, has broken or become disconnected. To check, you will need to remove the trim on the inside of the door, after removing any screws and the inside door lever and window winder.
Once you have the inside trim off and the plastic sheet, you will see an access hole for the door mechanism and the lock tumbler. It should be attached to the actuating rod by the aforementioned plastic bit. If plastic bit appears OK try re-attaching it or replacing it if broken. If the lever part of the lock tumbler which attaches to the rod is broken the lock will need replacing.
