Is there a way i can check the fuel pump fuse

it is easier to test fuel pressure no pressure no pump easy test for pump have some one turn on key as you listen to fuel tank with gas cap off ear to filler hole. pump should run 2-3 seconds and shut off

Gas gauge and tach do not read proper readings! What will cause this? The gas guage will peg past full when there is only quarter tank and tach reads 4500 RPM at idle

The gas tank sounds like a bad ground usually located under the car at the gas tank. I do not know but maybe they both tach and fuel gague get their ground from the same place.

Gas gauge not working

Your sending unit is bad.

Here is the circuit:

(+)———»IS———»VR———»G———»SU———»(Gnd)

IS: Ignition Switch
VR: Gauge Voltage Regulator (mounted with the gauges)
G: Gauge
SU: Gas tank sending unit

The gauge deflects through heating a strip of metal that bends when hot. There is resistance wire wrapped around that strip to heat it up. One end of that wrap of wire is attached to the gauge "voltage regulator, the other end to the tank sending unit. The "voltage regulator" cycles between conducting power from the Ign. Sw. to the gauge, and disconnecting the gauge from that voltage. The sending unit in the tank varies resistance in response to the position of the float in the tank. Full: virtually no resistance. Empty: a lot of resistance. When the tank is full, during the period the "voltage regulator" is on, the strip of metal heats up a lot, because the sender has almost no resistance. When the tank is empty, during the period of time the "voltage regulator" provides voltage, the strip barely gets heated, deflecting the gauge hardly at all, because the resistance the sending unit creates limits the current through the gauge.

You have almost no continuity through the sending unit except near full, and at a few other position. Replace the sender, and you will have a functioning gauge.

2002 monte carlo fuel gauge doesnt work, pump works ok.

It is likely the fuel level sending unit. I had a customer with an 03 Monte Carlo that the pump went out and the fuel gauge hadn't worked in about a year. We replaced the fuel pump module and it took care of both problems. I believe the sending unit is available separately from the complete module.

99 monte carlo 3.1 died on side of highway think it might be fuel pump would that be normal

Squirt some starting fluid in the intake if it starts and then dies yes its a fuel delivery problem. If it doesnt start at all check for spark at the plug wires then at the coil. If you have spark and fuel then it could be a number of things could be timing or crank sensor tps to name a few hope this will get you started at least.

1995 monte carlo starting and run problems

Sounds like the fuel is draining back towards the fuel tank, which is the reason for extended cranking till fuel reaches injectors. My guess would be the fuel pump in the fuel tank. It contains a REVERSE FLOW VALVE, which SHOULD prevent this. A visible way to check would to place a manual fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail valve. After shutting the engine off note the degree of pressure drop, if any. Hope this helps

1999 Monte Carlo fuel gauge stopped working

Hi there. If the fuel gauge is the only one acting up, its probably a loose or corroded wire on top of the gas tank where the fuel pump sets in. It could also be a loose wire on the back of the gauge, which is easier to get to so you could always check that first by popping off the dash pannel and pulling out the instrument cluster and looking for a broke wire on the back of the fuel gauge. But if I had to bet I would guess its on the other end by the fuel pump. Worse case sinario, maybe a bad sending unit.
