Question about 1997 Acura CL

1 Answer

Idle fluctuates My 1997 acura 3.0 cl idle started acting up. It idlles fine for about a minute after start, then it idles up and down from about 700 to 1200. Sounds like it starts to die, idles down, and then runs back up to 1200. About like sitting in the car hitting the gas, then letting off, quickly. Above idle speed, and rujnning down the road, it seems fine. Have looked for a vacuum leak, but didn't find anything.

Its could be a few things. Most likely cause is you IAC (Idle air control valve) If this valve gets clogged up with carbon it will cause a idle surge on cold starts like you are describing.

Next your FITV (fast idle thermal valve). When the hot wax inside of this valve starts to wear it will cause a idle surge on cold starts.

I have a 97 ACURA cl 2.2 and when I start my engine it the rpm idles to 1. Why is that?

unless the car is at operating temperature , the engine rpms on start is hiogher the at run as the ECM has a higer setting for idle ( like having a choke out a bit ) until the engine checks are done and then it settles back
best run the fault codes to check for faulty sensors

Starts wont idle

You're timing marks must be off. If the marks on the gears aren't perfectly aligned, it just won't run right. Take off the cover and make sure that when #1 cylinder is at top dead center, the marks are perfect.

1997 acura cl 2.2 revs up to 1500 rpm and down to 1000 rpm just several seconds after start

Cars are design to run at a higher idle at start up to warm them up quick. There is a sensor that reads water temperature and tells your car's computer how fast to idle. Your RPMs seem slightly high but not out of the norm. Does idle ever drop to around 600/800 after about a minute? If not, your engine temperature sensor maybe defective.

Idle jumps up n down

Sound like a vacuum hose slip off. Check all hoses to see any one came off.
If so plug it back to where it from.

2002 escape 3.0 idle fluctuates and misfires when driving

No such thing as a tune-up

All you did was replace spark plugs which should be
done every 3 years

Oxygen Sensors get replaced at 100,000 miles which you
also did

You most likely have an intake gasket leak, smoke test
the entire Evap System & Engine

You also are have bad igniton coils

Adjust idle on 97' Acura cl 2.2

Your idle should pretty much be set by the computer and shouldn't change to much unless some repairs have been or you have another problem. In any case below are the instructions on seting the idle. Also below I marked which fuse you will need to pull out for about 10 seconds in order to reset the computer. Make sure that if your radio has a security code that you have it before you pull this fuse as you will have to reset it. Hope this helps.

97 2.2 cl high idle, self rev, overheat, started same time

i cannot specifically point out what the problem might be, but an overheating car---never a good thing. check everything related to cooling. fans, radiator, hoses, waterpump, coolant overflow tank(see if its got a brownish color or looks like there is oil), and check your oil while your at it...
