Question about 1987 Suzuki Samurai

3 Answers

Lube coming from the top of manual transmission bleed hole.

I can't find information on the transmission so I don't know if this hole is a breather hole that is allowing the oil to run out, or if there is a problem internally.
The oil was changed by a shop and I'm not sure what type they put in.
The truck was used for several miles hunting and and on the highway before the oil started leaking.
The truck is a suzuki samurai 1987 with a five speed manual transmission.

Hi there
I know that this is not the answer you are looking for but if the shop changed the transmission fluid and its now leaking from the top, you have to take the car back to them because they have not done their jobs properly, they should have checked to make sure all seals and fluid lines are in a good state.
As a consumer and if you paid for this work carrying out you are more than entiltled to have the problem sorted at no cost to yourself

best regards

You are right, very hard to find information for this model, very old, my guess is that if it's licking then it may not be a breather hole,, more than likly a pipe should belong there that is missing now.

What type of gear oil do I use in the transfer case of a 1984 Chevrolet deluxe 4 by 4 manual transmission

I know you stated yours is an '84, but my '85 factory service manual says it should take Dexron II automatic transmission fluid.

If in doubt you could always pull the fill plug, stick your finger into the hole, bending it towards the bottom, pull on your finger and look/smell the fluid. If it looks/smells like automatic transmission fluid then that's what to put in. If it looks/smells like gear lube then that's the fluid to use. UNLESS someone in the past decided it was a good idea to put gear lube in, then all bets are off on the accuracy of the "finger test".

Hope this helps.

I cant find the ****** fluid fill and dipstick on my manual transmission

Did you say manuall transmission? Manual transmissions don't have dipsticks. The fill and drain is underneath on the transmission itself. When it starts to come out of the fill hole its full.

Where and how do i fill gearbox oil ? (Nubira 99)

  • On the side of the transmission you will have two plugs. One on top and one on bottom. The top one is the fill and the bottom one is the drain.
  1. Put a drain pan under the transmission.
  2. Pull the fill plug (top) FIRST [always]
  3. Remove the drain plug.
  4. Let all the gear lube drain out.
  5. Replace the drain plug.
  6. Get a funnel with a little hose on the end of it.
  7. Put the end of the hose in the fill plug hole.
  8. Fill the transmission with the required type of transmission gear lube (see manual)
  9. Inset the fill plug into the fill hole.
  10. Job complete.

Cannot locate position in motor to replace gear box oil; in 1993 5 gear manual toyota celica

  • You don't have a dip stick on this car. You have to go underneath the car and on the transmission you will see two plugs, one on top of the other. The one on top is the fill. The one on the bottom is the drain plug.

  1. To fill it you need a funnel with a hose on it.
  2. Remove the fill plug (top) and fill the transmission just until the gear lube barely seeps out and replug it.
  3. This is now the properly filled.
  4. Plug the fill hole back up.

  1. If you get a container and put it under the drain plug on the transmission and pull the top fill plug FIRST and then the bottom drain plug and let all the gear lube run out.
  2. Now plug the drain hole and fill the transmission till it seeps out.
  3. Now plug the fill hole.
  4. You just did a transmission flush on your vehicle and saved yourself $75usd shop charge.

3.7 quarts. Add it until the gear lube just begins to come out of the fill hole on the side of the transmission.

Where do u check n put n transmission gear oil on manual trans

there will be a drain plug (Some have 2) on the side of the transmission itself take out the top plug while parked on a level surface and if no fluid comes out take a clothes hanger and make a 1\2 inch bend insert it into hole and see if it shows any oil on it if not add the recommended lube as per your owners manual until it touches the homemade dipstick then re-install the plug.

How do i change the transmission fluid for my manual Nissan maxima 1996?i cant seem to find any pictures or diagram on how to change it.

manual transmissions should have a drain plug on or near the bottom of the transmission and a fill plug near the top of the transmission. Remove both plugs and drain gear lube into pan. Replace drain plug. Fill with recommended fluid through top hole and then replace that plug.

Is there a manual transmission dipstick on 97 4Runner?

there is no dipstick there is plugs in the side of the transmission. if you have a 3/8 ratchet you can remove the higher plug 4" above the bottom of the transmission. stick you finger in the hole to see if you can reach down and get oil on your finger. if you dont have any tools I would be heading to a quuick lube shop and getting the transmission levels checked and topped up if needed. mike
