CHECK THE BATTERY. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY JEEP. IT WOULD START WITH A JUMP AND EVEN BY ITSELF SOMETIMES. BUT IT WOULD STALL AND NO LIGHTS OR NOTHING. I GOT MY BATTERY AT ADVANCE AND TWICE I HAD TO HAVE IT REPLACED AFTER CHANGING THE BATTERY IT RUNS JUST FINE TILL THE BATTERY GOES AGAIN. WATCH OUT FOR ADVANCE BATTERIES. MY DAD HAS BEEN A MECHANIC FOR OVER 40 YRS AND HE HAD TO CHANGE 6 BATTERIES FROM ADVANCE. I BET THATS THE PROBLEM. MINE DID THE EXACT SAME4 THING BUT WHEN I CHANGED THE BATTERY IT WAS FINE. THE CARS TODAY TAKE SO MUCH JUICE TO RUN THAT IF THE BATTERY IS BAD IT CAUSES ALL KIND OF PROBLEMS.. I HOPE THIS HELPS.BUT JUST TO LET YOU KNOW. I HAD ADVANCE CHECK THE BATTERY OUTSIDE AND IT READ DEAD... HE TOOK IT IN TO THE BIG CHARGER INSIDE AND IT READ FULLY CHARGED AND THEY TRIED TO GIVE ME ALL KIND OF EXCUSES,,,,LIKE IT WAS MY IGNITION AND ALL THESE OTHER THINGS...IF IT WAS THE IGNITION IT WOULDNT HAVE STARTED WHEN HE JUMPED IT. I INSISTED ON A REPLACEMENT AND HAVENT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE.

I suspect it is the alternator, simple way to check it is to start the car whatever way you have to them disconnect the positive cable from the if the car stays running alternator is good if the car dies alternator is bad. **NOTE** when disconnecting the positive cable be sure not to touch the wrench to any other metal other than the battery post. If you battery is 4 to 5 years old maybe changing it would be a bad idea as well.

This problem sounds like the battery because your alternator will keep the car running but the battery wil not start the car.

Disconnecting the battery will not always answer the question on old cars it would but on most new cars even if the alternator is good the car may still die when the battery is disconnected because the alternator is designed to replenish the battery not keep the car running.

Battery light came on my 2004 saturn vue. We replaced the battery because it is six years old. light is still on and no air conditioning

WHEN THE BATTERY LITE COMES ON THE DASH IT IS TELLING YOU THE VOLTAGE FROM THE ALTERNATOR IS WORKING, TO CHECK THE ALTERNATOR WITH A VOLT METER ON DC WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING YOU SHOULD GET A READING OF 13.5 TO 14.5 VOLT WHEN YOU TEST THE BATTERY TERMINALS IF THE VOLTAGE IS LOWER THEN 13.5 VO0LTS YOU ALTERNATOR IS BAD

My 98 dodge stratus wont stay runing after a jump. alternator passes testing

The battery may be fried, if the battery is bad the electronic loop required for the alternator will not operate; in short your car will have no electrical power after the jumper cables are pulled. I'd check the battery.

I hope this may have assisted you,
Tom

Air Bag Light, Brake Light, & ABS Light came on in the dashboard.

Check and see if your alternator is charging
Low voltage will cause those lights to come on, as the computer is shutting down.

To check your alternator you will need a volt meter... WITH the engine running you should have about 14 volts coming out. IF NOT you need to replace the Alternator!

Charging system erratic

You need to Check the Belts for Tightness and replace the Battery Cables. When you Replace the Cables, you will need to Grind the Area where the Cables attach to Make sure that they are Contacting the Area Completely. A wire Brush will work very well for this. If the Belts are worn, they will Stretch out and will not allow the Alternator to charge the Battery. If you need more Help Just let me Know! Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Where is the Alternator located in a 1997 Lexus LS 400

If the car ran and got you home after a jump start I doubt the alternator is bad. Check your battery. And remember never ever disconnect the battery cable with the engine running.

it's a default sensor to keep from blowing motor, you need to check your radiator for leaks. If that doesn't fix the problem , change your alternator. :)
