Question about 2003 Cadillac CTS

1 Answer

My friend owns a 2003 cadillac cts 3.2 ltr engine. he needs to replace his timing belt because it broke but there are multiple timing marks on the harmonic balancer and 4 marks on the block, so he doesnt know which marks to line up on. How does he set timing up.

If he doesn't know, he shouldn't be trying to do this himself. The marks on the balancer are the ones that are used to compare against the ones on the block to tell whether you are on time or advanced or retarded (timing wise).

If the timing belt broke, he should take it to have it replaced because theres more than likely to be bent valves in the head. Heads should be checked before putting another timeing belt on. If there is valve damage, then more than likely there damage to the pistons too.

Why does it turn over making a whining noise and does not start?

Try cranking the engine with the belt removed.
You may have another pulley that is locked up.

Cadillac cts 2003 3.2l engine the timing belt jumped time i replaced the set it back on the timing marks an it didn't start i a code po 341 so replaced the camshaft position sensor didn't start

The same thing happened to my 03 CTS. The camshaft position sensor code is often thrown for a variety of reasons. In my case somehow the ECM went when the timing belt jumped (after the serpentine belt broke). It was a bear to diagnose but after installing a rebuilt ECM it runs great. (Don't make the mistake I made: the cylinder head gaskets will fit nicely on either side but if not placed on the correct sides you'll block the single oil port which provides engine oil to the head)

2003 cadillac cts 3.2 engine ..check engine code B1901- what does it mean

Hi there:
This refer at Airbag Systen fault code, check on steering wheel... there's a unit called a clockspring - and inside it there are wires that run inside a thin tape- like material. You most likely creased that tape which broke the wires to the squib. You will need to replace the clockspring- dealer item.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.
