Check that the brake fluid container is full, ABS braking systems are computerized and are supposed to stop the wheels from locking up if you brake hard. you have to take the 4x4 for a computer diagnostic to locate the problem, i wouldn't advise trying to sort this problem yourself as you could be putting your life in danger

kind regards

I would have the breaks inspected. Could be bad sensor, or bad caliper. Do you use the e-brake at all on the vehicle. I would take it in and have a professional look at it. If the abs light is on that means you can get a code from the vehicle as well that should further help you. If you need further assistance let me know. Please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,

Sounds like coincidence, there are a lot of possibilities. I am confident though it is something fairly simple in your braking system that any professional mechanic should be able to diagnose quite easily.
    Thank you,

How to switch 4 wheel drive back to 2 wheel drive in my 98 Jeep Grand Cherokee

that is because you have Part time 4wd? (what do you have)?
and must not drive on pavement free of ice.
its now winding up the drive train, bad for it too.

drive, to dirt, sand, gavel or grass and shift out of 4wd.
or jack up 1 tire, and same,
one tire must be on slippery surface. at least.

http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/driveline-bind.html

this happens on all PT 4wd
or using LOCK on AWD. dont.

are you in four wheel low or four wheel hi. if you are in four lo, put vehicle in neutral before trying to shift out and be at a complete stop. if you were in four hi, put vehicle in reverse and keep backing up, usually 4wd while come out and go back into 2wd

In my 2009 jeep grand Cherokee there is no 4 Ed shifter. Is pressing the "ESP" button engaging the 4wheel drive?

On the Jeep models, ESP means electronic stability program which is the same as traction control.
There are 3 different versions of four wheel drive on Jeep Grand Cherokees with the base version being all wheel drive.
Your owners manual should tell you which version you have and how it operates.

I got 2005 grand Cherokee 5.7 hemi I did the service 4wd I just need to know is there a way to reset the worning that always on the screen (even when I'll change it to somthing else it come back).

if the message "service 4wd" is appearing than there is a problem with the four wheel drive system. It does not mean the four wheel drive needs to be serviced (fluids changed, etc.).

Did you make any repairs to the four wheel drive system?

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee The ABS light comes on and stays on. What does this mean?

You may have a faulty sensor, most cases a wheel speed sensor, the light is on warning you that you do not have abs basically your car will stop like an old 70's model car before abs. abs atands for anti lock brakes, it keeps your brakes from locking up under extreme braking.

1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee wont come out of four wheel drive unles it sits over night, what can I do?

With any four wheel drive you should always stop and back up ten feet when ever taking it out four wheel drive. This helps to unlock the gears so they can disengage and helps ensure that it isn't still in 4WD.

1993 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4 wheel drive

I'm not absolutely sure on the tire size for the jeep itself, but I think they are 225/65/R15's. Not absolutely sure.

As for the noise, from your explanation, it sounds like the transfer case is under a heavy bind. Take it off of the road in some grass or dirt and then move it forward a few feet then simply hit reverse. Don't move much maybe an inch and it may release the bind. Once you get the bind off the transfer case, it should slip out of 4wd, unless there is damage in the case/shifter itself.

When operating four wheel drives, with tires of different sizes it causes extreme stress on the gearing in the transfer case. Larger tires don't turn the axles as much as smaller tires. So, this causes stress in the driveline as the front is actually turning slower then the rear. In turn, this will put so much pressure on the gears that it could cause damage and the shifting mechanism will not work correctly to pull it out of 4wd engagement.

Try those ideas, and see if you can get it out of 4WD. Definitely put four tires on the jeep that are all the same size. This will keep you from having excessive stress on the transfer case and gearing therein.

I hope this helps out buddy.
