Question about 1999 Audi A6
There is this wierd sound that is coming from the bottom of the car, it kind of sounds like the exhaust is broken or somthing, but it kind of goes away over 3000 rpm. also the check engin light is on too, does any one have any idea what the problem could be?
If its a sort of rattling it could be that the cat has broken up inside. You would have to get the car up and secure enough to dunt the exhaust with your hand listening for any rattles around the cat area. Make sure exhaust is cold first. Catalytic converters get well hot. It may just be some heat shielding around downpipe area or cat. If the problem is linked to a broken up cat the lambda sensor may be faulty to. Might be completely seperate though so best fix rattle first then find someone who has a code reader. You can buy OBD scanners fairly cheap on ebay and the likes if need be.
