Question about Dodge Pickup

2 Answers

I just bought a 1977 Dodge Monaco Motorhome and just replaced the house battery with a brand new marine battery. Now I'm finding that it runs all the lights and everything except the 110 outlets. I need to know if this is because I'm not hooked to shore power and therefore my converter is not kicking in or is my converter possibly blown? As far as I can tell the wrining to all the electrical outlets looks new so someone recently rewired it.

Any time your not plugged in, your converter is not on, unless you have a generator built in too. The converter needs 110vac, to produce 12vdc, and supply all your 12voltdc circuits. Once your plugged in, all should come to life, but if it's been re-wired, do yourself a favor & get a polarity tester from hardware store & check all your plugs to make sure it was done right. Also, when plugged in, you should see a voltage increase at house battery which indicates converter is re-charging house battery as well when plugged in.The rest of your 110vac receptacles etc, will be on your panel where breakers are.

Most if any 77 motorhomes didn't have inverters, just converters, unless installed after the fact, but all came with converters.

If you want to add an inverter 12vdc to 110AC, your looking at pretty big cost, plus a few more batteries for even running the basic 110vac items.

It is called an inverter, and it may not be hooked up, u will have to trace the source power for the outlets and at the source add an inverter to change 12 volts DC to 110 volts AC.

I'm trying to find an ignition wiring diagram for my 1977 dodge melmar fargo f40 rv

The ignition circuit should be the same as any 1977 Dodge truck, which is basically battery to ignition switch, start side of switch bypasses ballast resistor and goes directly to coil, run side of switch goes to ballast resistor (on firewall) and then to coil. This is done so that you have full 12 volts to coil when starting thus giving higher voltage to plugs to start, but lower amps, but when running you go through the resistor to get lower volts (about 7) to coil to increase amps for a fatter spark and better fuel economy.

Need a shifter cable for a 1977 dodge winnebago brave motorhome

Usually the shifter is on the dash instead of the column so the RV companies used their own design.
I would check with the RV clubs and research the internet for salvage yards for RVs and campers. Good Sam is one that comes to mind.
You may also find something that would work at a boat dealer.

Our motorhome battery that runs the house section drains within 2 hrs of use. it seems to drain the main battery which runs the motor as well. what can we do so this will last longer? we would liekt o run...

Your motorhome should have a converter in it. It takes 120 volts from the shore power hookup and converts it to 12 volts to run your heater and coach lights as well as recharging the house battery. You should make sure it is working properly. You should also have the house battery tested to make sure it's good. The engine battery should not connected to the house battery when the key is off. If it is there is a wiring or relay problem.
