Question about 1996 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima with a cylinder #3 misfire

The error code is p0303, I have changed the spark plugs but still a problem. I have looked around and it seems that nobody know what the problem is for sure. It seems I'm not the only nissan owner with this problem. I've read many postings with the same problem, but know one knows what to do. Any help would be appreciated.

Car sputtering badly. Codes P303 n P102 show on diagnostics and have replaced both parts associated with these codes,PLUS, new fuel filter, engine still sputtering badly.

Hi,

I hope I can help with this. This could mean the engine spark plugs or plug is the issue. Also check the exhaust pipe. White smoke indicates a coolant issue. Check your coolant reservoir. Black smoke indicates a Fuel issue. Blue is an oil issue. Also, speaking of your spark plugs there very well could be a misfire.

the code P303 could be cylinder 3 misfire
P102 the mass air flow sensor which is on the air filter cover. It's an electrical part and is sensor. Please check these and let me know.

Code p0303

P0303--"Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected". The PCM detected a misfire on cylinder 3,most likely an ignition issue. If your engine has one coil per cylinder, see if you can swap the coils(don't forget to mark the suspect coil). You will have to clear the existing code(the PCM will usually disable the fuel injector on the dead cylinder).See if a different code now sets(P0301 is cyl 1,p0302 is cyl 2,etc).If the code is the same, you will want to look at the plug(and wire,if your engine has plug wires). You could swap the wire and plug (one at a time) to see if the code changes with any of these.Of course, this is easier if you have your own code sanner(you can get a basic one for under 50 bucks-that's all I have, and it gets the job done!) If none of the parts swapping finds the solution, you can do similar swaps on the fuel injectors, but it is a little more work than the ignition stuff.

I have a cylinder #4 misfire code #P0304 on a 2000 Nissan maxima. How do I fix this problem?

Try this first: change spark plug for that cylinder and replace spark plug wire for same cylinder.
