Question about 1992 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

The car keeps dying!

My 1992 Buick Lesabre is sometimes high idling and then switches to low idle and dies. I can be driving at 65 and it just shuts off. I have tuned it up, all fluids are new, new battery, new throttle positioning senser. It now is starting to not open the automatic windows. There is also a back light that will not dim down. When it idles down, you can smell gas. But the pump works fine. Also a new feul filter was installed. The check engine light now is staying on instead of going off and on. It also will not talk to the computers that were hooked up at shucks auto supply. It whould not even acknowledge it. Please help!

my 92 leabre starts and runs 4 minutes then dies? i feel ya

My car keeps cutting off in the middle of driving. While driving I throw the care into neutral and re-start. The clock indicates there has been interruption from the power source. Battery is fine. Air conditoner and radiator has been repaired. Now the a/c condensor is running all of the time, the interior lights stay on after the engine is turned off. The interior lights go off when the doors are opened. The heater blows cold Lighter is not working anymore. The mechanic thinks the problem is a faulty ignition computer chip. The heater blows cold Any hope of sovling this problem. I see several other owners have similar problems with their Lesabre.

My 1992 caprice keeps dying when its cold

Here are the more common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle, it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and/or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving

Whenever i turn the wheel on my 2000 buick lesabre, my car acts like it wants to shut off and sometimes while im driving it does shut off, but cranks rite back up! It also idles high sometimes. What could...

Well you have a three part question...so part one the engine whats to shut off when you turn the wheel>there is a steering pressure switch located on the power hose line running to your power steering pump,,,it has an electrical connector make sure it hasn;t come loose or fuild leaking at base of switch or on top by connection...this switch sends a signal to your computer to increase the engine speed when the wheel is cranked so it doesn't stall ..Number 2 while driving shuts down can be a number of things but sort of relates to Number 3 idleing high sometimes...On your throttle body there is a component called a IAC sensor [idle air control} it should be tested sometimes the oring seal goes bad...also check condition of your air filter,if your vehicle has a MAF sensor {mass air flow } it also could be dirty....so with your air filter off and engine running spray some THROTTLE body cleaner into the opening of throttle while increasing the Rpm's of the throttle...Hope this leads you the right way

Dies at idle in gear

idle air control valve Check idle air control valve on throttle body. Mine had similer problems. A quick fix to get you going should be just unplug and remove spray w/ cleaner to get carbon off spring and cone shaft, reinstall. remember, this is just temporary. If cleaning helped, buy a new one soon. JMO

Car dying when letting off gas

Sounds like it's your IAC (idel air control sensor).  The IAC is a computer-controlled air bypass valve located in the throttle body. It helps control idle speeds by allowing air to bypass the throttle plates as to increase the idle speed.  If the IAC isn't working properly the car will stall when you are not pressing the gas pedal.  It is located on your throttle body and is relatively cheap and a simple change since it is normally held in my two screws.  Let me know if you have any other questions.  Thanks for an honest ranking and for using FixYa!

1995 Buick Lesabre custom stalling and idle

did you clean the idle speed control air bypass valve?, u do this by spraying carb spray into the intake while the engine is held at hi idle so it won't stall, use up about half the can, then shut down and disconnect battery for 5 minutes to reset system idle learn, drive the car for a few days and let me know if the problem is fixed.

2003 Lesabre keeps dying

I've had the same problem with a '95, check your gaps in you spark plugs and you plug wires. If that is not the solution, it could be in the fuel system.
